Job Description

Basic Purpose

Position serves as a leader of the after school dormitory curriculum which is aimed toward educating students about non-academic matters and assisting students in preparing for transition from residential school setting to an independent environment. Serves as liaison between the residential program and other campus programs; provide needed services or referral to school counselor; provide ASL and written reports as required; participates in conferences concerning student life transition program and dormitory curriculum; assist in the development/application of new approaches methods techniques and practices for student development. Promote student success provide tools and respond to identified student needs that addresses academic career and personal/social development of students. Designs deliver evaluate and revise appropriate activities for all residential students. Assist the Recreational Specialist with planning/monitoring activities and events with students and cover the Recreation Specialists activities when he/she is out.

Education and Experience

Associate degree in Deaf Education Human Services or a related field. Two years experience working with the Deaf. Ability to reach the level of sign language proficiency designation for the position within the time frame established by the schools Sign Language Communication Policy.

Knowledge Skills Abilities and Competencies

Knowledge of basic human physical and psychological needs simple health and safety precautions and basic first aid methods ability to communicate effectively.

Position is located at Oklahoma School for the Deaf (OSD) in Sulphur.

Preferred Qualifications: American Sign Language Skills.
