  • Castle Rock School District #401 would like to announce the opening for one elementary school counselor position for the 2025-26 school year.
    Reports to: Building Principal
    Essential Functions:
    • Work effectively and cooperatively with students parents teachers community administrators and support staff
    • Provide assistance and support for students needing mental health and related referrals.
    • Implement a comprehensive guidance curriculum as outlined by district standards and principles.
    • Provide small group facilitation and targeted intervention services for students to address skills and behaviors necessary for academic success.
    • Engage in ongoing professional development as part of a Professional Learning Community in which issues related to implementing effective interventions are considered and current research on effective practice is read and discussed.
    • Work with children and families who are economically culturally linguistically and racially diverse.
    • Build relationships and establish trust (with students parents and staff) by maintaining a visible presence within the school.
    • Work directly with parents and teachers to help students develop a positive self-concept enhance open communication and create a positive school climate where students can learn.
    • Work directly with all students parents and teachers to provide a comprehensive student needs-based counseling program (American School Counselors Association Model).
    • Participate in building assessment and intervention teams.
    • Work directly with students and staff in all levels of behavior support including planning and crisis intervention.
    • Work directly within the student information system to develop and manage both school and individual student schedules.
    • Make class presentations of the guidance curriculum.
    • Must be able to physically restrain/maintain a student to ensure the safety of other students.
    • Participate in individual behavioral planning documentation and intervention as needed (behavior plans manifestation determinations threat assessment and crisis intervention)
    • Work directly with students to assist them in developing effective coping skills necessary to refuse participation in gang affiliation/activity and substance abuse.
    • Uses student disputes and misbehaviors as opportunities to authentically engage students in developing and practicing anger management strategies and problem-solving skills.
    • Maintain necessary data for purposes of analyzing student progress and program effectiveness.
    • Actively engages students in using technology in individual and collaborative learning activities.
    • Serve as a positive role model for students and practice the behavior that is expected of our students.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Minimum Qualification:
    • Washington State Educational Staff Associate School Counseling or Social Worker.
    • Obtain clearance from Washington State Patrol and FBI background check at employees expense.
    Knowledge and Skills:
    • Willingness to participate in professional development courses aligned with the school and district initiatives.
    • Must have regular consistent attendance.
    • Experience as a classroom teacher and/or mental health specialist preferred.
    • Experience working effectively with diverse groups of teachers students and parents.
    • Experience conducting large-group presentations and both small-group and individual counseling sessions.
    • Experience developing schedules and maintaining data (as related to counseling services)
    • Strong understanding (through coursework/experience) of issues relating to at-risk students.
    • Preferred specific training in drug and alcohol intervention anger management strategies peer mediation peer helper and character education programs.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with community agencies and organizations to obtain support and resources.
    • Training in developing positive relationships and conflict resolution.
    • Experience with Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS)
    • Advanced ability to use technology as an effective communication planning and instructional tool.
    Salary and Benefits:
    Salary: $54221 - 102194

    Physical Requirements:
    Positions in this class typically require stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting finger dexterity grasping talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions. This position may be exposed to prolonged exposure to visual display terminals as required.
    Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

    Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts odors chemicals extreme temperatures inadequate lighting workspace restrictions and intense noises.
    Experience/Training: Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate Certificate. Additional Experience in working with groups of students is beneficial to this position.

    Education: EducationalStaff Associate (ESA) Certification at Initial or Continuing Level; Endorsed as school Counselor or School Social Worker.
