Job Description

1.0 FTE Non-Continuing Leave Replacement Position for the 2018-2019 School Year Only - 7.50 hours per day (Monday-Friday)


Job Summary:

The Trauma Informed School Counselorwill have knowledge in trauma informed practices school counselingassessment and instruction as well as skill in facilitating students to becomeactive learners and will provide family students and staff services whichhelp promote the education and social and emotional development ofstudents. The Trauma Informed SchoolCounselor will have knowledge and skills specific to the developmental statesand social and emotional needs of students and must believe in setting highexpectations for themselves and Trauma Informed School Counselor will have knowledge and skills inassessing behavioral needs and interventions and in developing andimplementing complex behavior intervention plans.

MinimumQualifications:

  • Valid Washington State Educational StaffAssociate (ESA) certificate with School Counselor endorsement
  • Masters degree in Social WorkCounseling Psychology or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience providingclinical behavioral and consultative support to students with behavioraldisabilities in an academic setting
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Excellent oral and writtencommunication skills
  • Successful experience at appropriategrade level preferred
  • Experience and/or trainingwith cultural ethnic and language diversity preferred

DesiredSkills:

  • Knowledgeof counseling instructional and behavioral intervention methods
  • Knowledgeof individual and group assessment techniques data gathering and statisticalanalysis
  • Knowledgeof current technology and computerized data management systems
  • Knowledgeof and ability to access community agencies
  • Knowledgeof special childhood problems including abuse depression etc.
  • Knowledgeof the unique physical psychological and social changes students experienceand a desire to help students grow in these areas
  • Knowledgeof federal and state laws rules and regulations governing the education ofchildren with disabilities including IDEA 97 and 504
  • Skillsin communication and strength in developing and maintaining effective workingrelationships with students parents staff and community agencies
  • Knowledgeof State of Washington mental health delivery system
  • Knowledgeof DSM-IV R diagnostic categories
  • Knowledgeof best practices for counseling treatment and environmental interventions forchildren with severe behavioral disorders

EssentialJob Functions:

  • Providedirect counseling services to students in classroom small groups andindividually
  • Abilityto create connected communities and positive school climates that aretrauma-sensitive to keep students healthy and in school and involved inpositive social networks
  • Provideindividual group and family based trauma informed counseling services
  • Partnerwith school parent and community agencies to help deliver wrap-around servicesto students and families
  • Implementeffective academic and behavioral practices such as positive behavioralinterventions and supports and social and emotional learning
  • Keepabreast of current trends in the profession and translate appropriate researchto practical applications in the areas of counseling curriculum instructionand assessment
  • Providesconsultation that may include resources training support and modeling ofeffective instructional strategies and methods to special and general educationstaff parents student and others
  • Facilitate involved communityeffectively with staff and parents to create a partnership of support forchildren
  • Workto facilitate cooperation between the classroom teachers and parents toincrease learning and improve behavioral skills
  • Workeffectively and cooperatively with parents teachers administrators andsupport staff and as a team member
  • Maintainprofessional competence through in-service education coursework orprofessional growth activities
  • Assistfamilies in obtaining appropriate community services which fall outside of theschool or educational setting
  • Maintain consistent presence at assignedworksite and regular work hours
  • Professionally interact with studentsstaff and public
  • Establish and maintain professionalcontacts with students
  • Comply with all district policies andprocedures
  • Comply with the Code of ProfessionalConduct
  • Perform related duties as assigned
