What youll do

Responsibilities

As the Academic Chair for the School of Health and Human Services you will:

  • Lead the delivery of Practical Nursing and Continuing Care programs at the Ivany Campus ensuring the highest standard of quality and consistency in programing while supporting student success.
  • Provide leadership to the Practical Nursing and Continuing Care programs across the College in partnership with the leadership in the School of Health and Human Services. Your strategic and operational leadership is key to ensuring the objectives of programs offered by NSCC are met through efficient and effective management of all fiscal and human resources while endorsing the application of adult education principles and portfolio learning within a safe work environment and portfolio learning in a learning centered college.
  • Be a key member of both Campus and School teams. Campuses and Schools share accountability for ensuring a quality-learning environment and a cohesive campus team.
  • Use your established relationships in the health care and human service related sectors regionally and locally to inform programming and opportunities for students.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a Bachelor of Nursing or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. You are currently registered or are eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) and are in good standing. A Graduate Degree would be considered an asset.

  • You have a minimum of seven (7) years (full-time equivalent) of recent and progressive occupational experience in healthcare. You have a minimum of five (5) years (full-time equivalent) in a formal supervisory management or leadership role. Experience in your field includes leadership/management and formal teaching at a post-secondary level.

  • You have demonstrated strength in supervising managing and leading a team.
  • Experience coaching mentoring and ensuring appropriate development of team members in the achievement of excellence.

  • Experience managing and forecasting budgets.

  • Occupational experience that includes managing in a unionized environment would be considered an asset.

  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suit and e-mail. Experience with Learning Management Systems such as Brightspace and experience with Human Resource Information Management systems would be considered assets.

  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.
  • You have experience in training/facilitation preparation delivery and evaluation.

  • You are known for your superior customer service skills and are able to create a relationship of trust beyond the immediate interaction.
  • Your superb team working skills enable you to contribute positively to a team environment.
  • You have specific technical occupational knowledge and skill in the healthcare field specifically nursing and have had experience working with accreditations.
  • You are known for your problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • You are a strong communicator.
  • You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to coordinating logistics for on and off campus events and programming.
  • You have proven records and information management skills and abilities including scheduling staff and programming.
  • You demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
  • You are dedicated to life-long learning and have recent relevant development opportunities.
  • Passion for NSCCs critical role in the provinces economic and community development.
