Job Description
Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) is a unique Indigenous Institute recognized by community government and institutions of higher learning as a Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Knowledge. SNP offers postsecondary secondary trades education and training. SNP has formal partnerships with nine publicly funded Ontario Universities and Colleges and collaborates with six Ontario-based Indigenous owned and controlled post-secondary Institutes.
Function & Overview
Reporting to the Associate Dean The Inclusion Initiatives Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of a wide variety of equity diversity and inclusion initiatives within SNP Skilled Trades to foster a sense of belonging and improve program retention. This will include coordinating and leading events information sessions and training programs to increase awareness of EDI and gender based violence (GBV) for students staff and external agencies. The Inclusion Initiatives Coordinator is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff students stakeholders and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching learning and work environment consistent with Hodinsh:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ganigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind).
Duties
The duties of the Inclusion Initiatives Coordinator Skilled Trades include without limitation:
Develop & Deliver Inclusion Initaitves
- Conducting environmental scans and literature/materials review to write reports and develop a resource library for staff and students related to skilled trades EDI and GBV;
- Building relationships contributing to a respectful team environment working collaboratively with students staff and community partners by connecting and communicating to organize EDI related initiatives for skilled trades programs;
- Developing organizing and facilitating GBV and EDI-related training events and information sessions for students staff and placement employers by using knowledge of current issues and best practices that promote human rights equity and inclusion for equity-deserving groups and other underrepresented groups. Coordinating activities and confirming schedules with the Unit Coordinator;
- Providing support facilitation and guidance to instructors and other departments planning their own EDI related initiatives by providing support and advice when required;
- Developing and maintaining information and resources libraries that are readily available to students using various communication styles;
- Coordinating various GBV and EDI initiatives to improve learners retention and completion rates in in-class and work placement experiences by:
- Developing materials and info sessions for employers to enhance awareness of learner support of underrepresented groups during work placements enhancing awareness and fostering positive experiences for both parties;
- Supporting learners and employers throughout the work experience process from identifying opportunities to securing placements. Ensuring regular monitoring addressing issues promptly and seeking additional support to enhance the success and outcomes for all involved.
- Providing EDI training sessions and sharing best practices with program staff on instructional techniques and program material development through an EDI/UDL (Universal Design in Learning) lens to support learner success;
- Developing and implementing initiatives to increase learners sense of belonging and support their success in skilled trades;
- Identifying opportunities coordinating and attending workshops hosted by community partners employers and/or Student Affairs that promote skilled trades student wellness and success.
- Provide one-on-one and group support aimed at facilitating access to and confidence in campus resources and activities. The coordinator will liaise actively with other Student Affairs and support services as needed.
- Establishing and maintaining databases of contacts community partners and project activities to ensure they remain under SNPs ownership and stewardship indefinitely.
- Developing surveys and questionnaires to gather feedback; analyzing the effectiveness of EDI and GBV activities initiative and community engagement (e.g. evaluation forms reflection exercises etc.); using information to create or enhance initiatives. Preparing statistical reports and data that can be used for reporting purposes;
- Providing administrative coordination and support to Associate Dean and other team members.
General Administration
- Supporting the Associate Dean in identifying program funding opportunities assisting with application development and gathering materials;
- Identifying program recruitment and orientation activities supporting coordination including preparing and presenting information to potential applicants at various community events as required;
- Supporting the preparation of program marketing and promotional materials;
- Collaborating with external agencies to ensure guidelines are met and with internal departments for publication planning;
- Providing administrative assistance and support to team members when assigned by Manager;
- Establishing and maintaining collaborative and positive workplace relations with Instructor/s students staff and administrators to support and promote a positive learning environment;
- Participating and supporting various program and organizational activities events or committees (e.g. Board working group and program advisory meetings orientation sessions) as required;
- Developing an approved annual work plan for the efficient and effective discharge of all duties;
- Adhering to all policies and processes including conforming to deadlines and reporting requirements;
- Participating in maintaining a supportive environment conducive to learning and working at SNP; and
- Other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Post secondary education within Community Social Services Human Rights or equivalent
- Demonstrated knowledge of workplace violence and pertinent legislation (i.e. Human Rights Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario Mental Health Act of Ontario AODA.).
- Progressive experience specifically within Equity Diversity and Inclusion including:
- Experience in designing and implementing equity and inclusion initiatives.
- Experience designing developing and facilitating workshops or training on equity diversity and inclusion and leading various audiences in these discussions.
- Demonstrated experience in gathering and leveraging data to provide evidence-based decisions.
- A strong understanding of EDI and anti-racism and the experience of equity-deserving groups and demonstrated recognition of related Indigenous and settler lenses.
- Proven ability to build relationships to contribute to respectful team environment to work collaboratively with students staff administrators and community partners.
- High degree of tact diplomacy attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent skills in both verbal and written communication.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Proficient in various computer applications; and a demonstrated commitment to professional development and continuous learning;
- Demonstrated competencies in strategic thinking coordination analysis policy development and change management;
- A general and current knowledge of Hodinsh:nih history culture values contemporary issues community priorities and stakeholders;
- Excellent communication skills with an emphasis on written expression (i.e. faultless spelling and grammar and professional style);
- Sound interpersonal skills including communication organization negotiation confidentiality and professional judgement;
- Ability to work under pressure and manage schedules portfolios and timelines to meet demanding deadlines;
- Capacity to work both independently and in a team setting demonstrating Hodinsh:nih/ Rotinonhson:ni values of Ganigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind);
- Demonstrated familiarity with standard desktop computing programs including spreadsheets word processing and database applications on the Windows 2010 (or later) operating system; and
- Contributing to a culturally supportive teaching learning and work environment consistent with
Hodinsh:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ganigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind).
Criminal Record Check
The IIC may be required to provide an original Criminal Background Check- Vulnerable Sector Screening that is satisfactory to Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) prior to the first day of work and an Offence Declaration that is satisfactory to SNP by August 31 every 2nd year in which they are employed by Six Nations Polytechnic.
