Job Description

Licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio pursuant to Section 4705.01 of the Ohio Revised Code.

Preferred qualifications:

3-5 years experience in debtor-creditor law

Prior experience in bankruptcy and creditors rights

Licensed in federal court

Unusual Working Conditions:

The Ohio Attorney GeneralsCollections Enforcement Section is one of the nations largest premier government collection practices representing more than 300state agencies institutions boards commissions public university hospitals as well as numerous political subdivisions to resolve and collect delinquent debts.The second largest section in the Ohio Attorney Generals office we are a fast-paced high-volume practice that utilizes both internal staff external vendors and Special Counsel to recover a variety of debts such as taxes fines university debts and economic development loans. Most debts we collect are subject to statutory offset programs which are managed by the section.

Our Assistant Attorneys General provide legal services and counsel to clients and business operations staff of Collections and other sections of the office on bankruptcy and creditors rights issues. Additionally they are tasked with specific client portfolios and legal service programs including the state Offer-in-Compromise program Foreclosure defense recovery Auditor of State Findings for Recovery Medicaid Estate Recovery and Crime Victims fund recovery. Our Assistant Attorneys General represent client interests in collection matters before Ohio and nationwide bankruptcy courts and state court insolvency proceedings and actively negotiate settlements and provide financial analysis and assessment of debts to clients and other stakeholders to allow informed decisions on debt resolution.

We are currently seeking an energetic attorney with at least 3-5 years experience in debtor-creditor law who is licensed both in Ohio and federal court.The candidate should possess strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex legal matters and effectively solve problem solutions.The candidate must have the ability to manage a fast-paced high-volume practice by appropriately prioritizing tasks using good judgment and communicating effectively with the management team.Experience in bankruptcy and creditors rights is strongly preferred.Thispositionwillworkahybridin-person/remoteschedule.Theremaybechangestothisschedulebasedontrainingand operational needs. The position will be headquartered in any of our offices around the State of Ohio: Columbus Cincinnati Cleveland Toledo or Boardman.
