Summary

We invite candidates to apply to an adjunct faculty position with the Department of Rehabilitation Counseling College of Health Professions.

The position will work with rehabilitation counseling faculty to coordinate implement and evaluate an interdisciplinary behavioral science curriculum. In addition the adjunct instructor will coordinate all curriculum transition activities over the next 12 months for four courses and 400 students. This includes being Course Director for 3 courses as well as being a part of the instructional team for the remaining courses and serving as a primary assessor for all formative and summative activities. The position offers the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary team and learn curriculum design and instruction as well as learning technology. This is an ideal position for someone who has some teaching experience and is seeking to move into interdisciplinary education.

Responsibilities:

  • Be Course Director on three courses from August through May.
  • Be part of the instructional team on courses assisting focused on assessment.
  • Coordinate and schedule all activities (for 400 students).
  • Provide hybrid class instruction and activities.
  • Develop interactive exercises formative assessments and summative assessments.
  • Coordinate and conduct formative and summative assessments.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students on all assignments.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff in the creation of and implementation of case scenarios.
  • Develop and implement online class instruction using the most up to date adult learning strategies and tools.
  • Assist an interdisciplinary team to evaluate the curriculum on an annual basis.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Training in motivational interviewing shared decision making public health systems.
  • Masters degree in a health-related field.
  • Prior knowledge of patient centered care paradigms behavioral science (especially behavior change theories) cultural competency specialty topics like but not limited to mental health addiction tobacco cessation.
  • Schedule flexibility to be on campus when needed 4 Mondays in August/September and some Fridays as scheduled.
  • Must have consistent internet access (laptop provided).
  • Reliable strong worth ethic team oriented.
  • Previous teaching and/or training experience.
  • Have knowledge of Microsoft Office and be open to learning new technology and software.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of professionalism respect and civility with a population of faculty staff and students from various backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as an adjunct faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in health sciences public health education interdisciplinary studies social work or counseling.
