What will you do
As a Prototype Machinist you will bring strong experience in both manual and CNC machining to support our team. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about precision work thrives in a fast-paced prototyping environment and has the versatility to contribute to technical assembly when needed.
Essential Job Functions:
- Operate manual and CNC machine tools including:
- Manual milling machines
- Manual lathes
- 3-axis CNC machines (experience with OKUMA and ProtoTRAK a plus)
- General machine shop tools (band saws grinders drill presses etc)
- Program and machine precision parts from solid models and/or drawings
- Use CAM software (HSMWorks or Fusion 360) to generate toolpaths
- Accurately measure and inspect machined parts using standard tools: calipers micrometers (inside and out) pin gauges height gauges etc
- Maintain a high level of quality and precision in all parts produced
- Perform occasional TIG welding if capable (a plus not required)
- Assist with technical assembly projects as needed especially during downtime in the machine shop
- Demonstrate mechanical aptitude and a hands-on approach to problem-solving
Location
Position is based onsite in San Diego.
What are we looking for
- 3 years of experience in prototype or job-shop machining environments
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Strong understanding of G-code and CNC programming principles
- Familiarity with SolidWorks and CAD/CAM integration workflows
- Ability to work from engineering drawings CAD files or physical models
- Self-motivated detail-oriented and able to work independently or in a small team
- Ability to stand continuously
- Ability to bend squat and lift frequently
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Must be a US Person (US Citizen or US Permanent Resident)
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with SolidWorks and HSMWorks or Fusion 360
- Experience with OKUMA controls and ProtoTRAK equipment
- Completion of a trade school or community college program in machining CNC operation or a related technical field; or equivalent industry-recognized certification

Compensation and Benefits
Prototype Machinist pay range: $25.70 - $42.00/ hour
*This range represents base pay. In addition you may be eligible for additional benefits and compensation.
