King County Parks is excited to announce two Special Duty Assignments (SDA) for the role of Assistant Operations Manager. This dynamic role offers a chance to leverage your supervisory and leadership expertise while driving meaningful improvements in staff engagement cross-team collaboration and operational efficiency. Your contributions will enhance the workplace experience for parks employees and elevate the quality of service for park visitors.About the Role:These two SDA Assistant Operations Manager roles will help manage the daily operations and oversight of the Parks Operations Section. The Assistant Operations Manager will support the Operations Manager by enhancing coordination communication accountability and program effectiveness among the supervisory and operations staff. These two SDAs will run concurrently; one candidate will be assigned to oversee the Operations Business/Program Administration unit and the other will be assigned to oversee the Field Maintenance Operations unit.

What You Will Be Doing:
- Assist the Operations Manager in the daily oversite and management of the Parks Operations Section including planning project management support and personnel management.
- Assist the Assistant Operations Manager in oversite and management of the Operations Business Unit and the Restoration Vegetation Management Cultural Resources and Asset Management Programs and help coordinate directly with Finance Fleet Stores and others to support the section.
- Develop and monitor annual budgets staffing plans and cost estimating for supplies and projects.
- Supervise the work of assigned staff including oversight of employee development performance management discipline hiring and selection processes timesheets leave requests and other personnel processes.
- Develop and effectively maintain relationships with department and division directors senior managers and other agency partner staff throughout the County.
- Participate in preparing preventative maintenance plans for equipment structures and oversee implementation and daily administration of these plans.
- Monitor compliance and operational performance metrics and implement solutions that incorporate and encourages teamwork and efficiency.
- Provide management support problem solving and conflict resolution to collective bargaining and labor and employee relations processes.
- Act as Operations Manager when assigned and represent Operations interests in meetings as required.
Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills
Qualifications You Bring:
- Minimum of three years of experience managing represented staff across diverse job classifications and locations.
- Ability to solve complex internal and external customer service issues with tact and diplomacy and working effectively with a broad and diverse customer base.
- Experience monitoring and balancing the budget of a work unit or program.
- Experience in the planning scheduling and coordinating of a variety of skilled semi-skilled and non-skilled workers leads and support staff to satisfy the goals and objectives of the work unit and Division priorities.
- Experience working through interpersonal relations negotiation and dispute resolution.
- Ability to communicate in an effective and positive manner with employees peers supervisors customers County officials and union representatives.
- Knowledge of national park trail and open space standards.
- Pacific NW Resource Management schoolgraduate or equivalent education focused on Parks Recreation and/or Natural Resources.

It Would Be Great if You Also Bring:
- At leastfive years experience performing in Operations working with a variety of skilled semi-skilled and professional staff such as park maintenance workers recreation professionals and capital project managers.
- Knowledge of King County Parks facilities policies and procedures.
- Experience in developing resource requirements and cost estimating for park and trail construction and maintenance and determining appropriate equipment and supplies for work unit crews.
- Experience initiating Lean/Six Sigma improvements with staff
Supplemental Information
Working Conditions:
- Remote and Onsite Work Details:Employees in this role will be expected to physically report onsite each week at least 3 days per week(see below details). Remote work from home may also occur but will be based on business need. The frequency of onsite work is determined by business needs and may be adjusted accordingly. This position may need to report to work after hours or on weekends when business needs dictate.
- Remote Work Location Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements.
- Work Location:The temporaryonsite reporting location is Marymoor Park in Redmond until the Central Maintenance Facility (CMF) in Renton is available. The CMF will be the primary reporting location (when open) typically 3 days per week. The other two days are typically meant for field visits at other properties and one of those days may be used as a telecommute day as priorities allow.
- Work Schedule: Core operations hours range from 6am to 4:30pm with some district coverage until 10:30pm. Incumbents must be prepared to work within the core operations hours and adapt to occasional varied schedules to support our front-line team members and/or to address urgencies in the section or division. This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible.
- Union Representation: This position is not represented by a union.
- Duration: This recruitment aims to fill two Special Duty Assignment positions with an anticipated duration of six months. If the position is filled by a King County employee who has successfully completed their initial probation they will be offered the role as a Special Duty Assignment.
