Job Description

SUMMARY: The Department Director will be responsible for providing complete oversight of the day-to-day activities of Department staff and operations including specific strategic planning treatment and support services for those seeking recovery for opioid and other substance abuse. The Department Director is expected to be a positive role model by demonstrating encouragement motivation and support for participants grandparents caregivers and relatives who are involved in the recovery process. The Department Director will seek out and build partnerships with vested programs schools and agencies in order to develop a successful Tribal Action Plan. The Department Director will plan and implement activities and functions of the Program to ensure that goals and objectives specified for the program are accomplished and are in accordance with the projected timeline. The Department Director will be responsible for learning and implementing evidence-based practices that provide treatment and support and emphasize self-resilience and responsibility among those seeking recovery. The Department Director will play a vital role in incorporating Omaha cultural values language and traditions into the goals objectives and activities of the Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Develop strong working partnerships with other tribal programs public schools NICC and agencies in order to provide an effective strategic planning process.
  • Receive training to facilitate evidence-based practices.
  • Play an active role is assisting youth and families in participating in Omaha healing practices and activities held at the Family Resource Center.
  • Manage networking efforts with surrounding programs and local organizations to strengthen goals and objectives of the Program through strategic planning.
  • Work in partnership with tribal programs agencies and staff to plan and implement developed strategies pertaining to opioid and other substance abuse issues.
  • Administer selected screening assessment and other tools to provide supportive and psychoeducational interventions (i.e. trauma SBIRT Risk Factor Test) as part of the intake process of participants particularly those being referred for treatment services.
  • Further develop a website in order to create greater access to language and culture learning.
  • Facilitate or co- facilitate workshops and in-service training for staff partnering program staff and community members pertinent to immersion of Omaha language and culture.
  • Develop cultural identity screening of participants as a pre-cursor and follow-up to substance abuse treatment services.
  • Make referrals and provide follow-up services for participants engaged with mental health and/or substance abuse treatment.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate planning sessions and assist with organizing community and cultural events/activities.
  • Develop partnerships and manage communication collaboration and data collection efforts with partner programs.
  • Collect and analyze data; prepare schedules and special reports; maintain program records and update data and information pertaining to the selected evaluation tool of the program.
  • Work with contracted consultants to facilitate community events and team building.
  • Supervise train and support staff in carrying out program duties and responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in management and program development.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES and/or REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must pass background check and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and have proof of insurance.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS and/or ABILITIES:

  • Possess organizational skills to perform an array of administrative tasks.
  • Possess working knowledge of the Omaha language culture and traditions to mentor facilitate and teach Omaha tribal members.
  • Ability to work in group settings under challenging conditions.
  • Ability to bring groups of professionals and tribal citizens together to work in strategic planning processes.
  • Must be agreeable to having regular drug and alcohol testing/screening.
  • Must possess quality computer skills.
  • Must possess strong public speaking skills able to provide lectures and teach Omaha culture and substance abuse.
