We have an exciting opportunity to come and join the Extended Domestic Abuse Team part of the Family Help Service. We are currently looking for a Senior Social Work Practitioner to join the team of skilled and experienced practitioners specialising in whole family domestic abuse work and are looking for an individual who has a passion for wanting to support families to reduce the harm caused to their children from exposure to domestic abuse and a belief in the ability of families to make positive changes.
About the Role
The day-to-day work involves being part of a team who triage the referrals received into CFS reviewing thresholds and making decisions on the appropriate level of response thinking specifically about whether a period of brief and early intervention work may support families to reduce the risks of further harm through domestic abuse.
The senior practitioner is also responsible for overseeing the work of a team of practitioners who are providing an immediate response to families where a timely response is work involves telephone and face to face contact with families working in partnership with families to undertake brief and analytical assessment of needs and verify risk assessments. Practitioners agree immediate priorities with the families to ensure immediate needs are met as well as working with families to establish support networks and safety plans to increase safety for children and ensuring their voice is reflected within these as well as making onward referrals to other agencies.
The position of senior practitioner is also a case holding role becoming involved with families where risks are more complex where there has been a previous history of social care involvement or where there are concerns that after initial intervention escalation to a social care response may be required.
The role includes supporting the Team & Partnership Manager and Team Leader in their oversight of the other workstreams of the team which includes one to one intervention with adults causing harm delivery of the Caring Dads group programme and roll out of schools training around Operation Encompass. It is also the role of the senior practitioner within the Extended Domestic Abuse Team to support the development of specialist domestic abuse practice by sharing learning and training around legislation guidance services and ways of working in relation to domestic abuse with other areas of the service.
The post holder will also need to have a full driving license and access to a vehicle.
This is a permanent Senior Practitioner Post which will sit within the Extended Domestic Abuse Team for the duration of the funding. Although this is currently only agreed until 31st March 2026 there is ongoing commitment for the continuation of this work. However should the funding come to an end the post holder would retain a permanent Senior Practitioner post but would be required to move to a vacant SP post within Children and Family Services.
A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.
