Description of Work

This position is assigned to Perquimans Juvenile Detention Center in Hertford NC.
The salary for this position is based on the state teachers salary schedule plus a 6% annual supplement.
This position is a 12-month teaching position responsible for providing instruction to students at Perquimans Juvenile Detention Center. The teacher will provide small group instruction aligned with the NC Standard Course of Study to students in grades 6 - 12 and/or for students who are pursuing their high school equivalency or have graduated. This position will be expected to collaborate with a partner teacher the detention facility director direct care staff Juvenile Education Services staff and other stakeholders to ensure appropriate instruction and services are provided to all students while maintaining a safe and secure environment. The teacher will be expected to prepare differentiated lessons maintain student progress reports and other records and develop implement and monitor students IEPs with fidelity.
Work Schedule:This is a full-time position. To qualify for this position applicants must demonstrate ALL of the following KSAs:
- Experience providing effective instruction to meet the needs of students with diverse needs.
- Experience accurately measuring student learning.
- Experience effectively managing student behaviors in the classroom.
- Experience establishing rapport with and relating to the students served and their families treatment professionals and campus staff.
- Experience observing and communicating observations and recommendations effectively in oral and written form.
- Knowledgeable of special education laws policies and processes
Management Preference:These skills are not required but managers may choose to interview/select applicants who demonstrate Management Preferences.
- NC Teaching certification in EC or willing to obtain EC certification within a year of hire.
