Position Overview
The Health Aide at Promesa Academy is a vital member of the school operations team supporting the physical well-being and safety of all students. Under the supervision of the Operations Manager and in coordination with local health guidelines and school policies the Health Aide provides basic first aid manages student medications maintains health records and ensures a healthy school environment. This role requires compassion attention to detail and the ability to work with students staff and families in a caring and confidential manner.
Student Health Support
- Provide first aid and basic care for students who become ill or injured during the school day
- Monitor students with chronic conditions (asthma diabetes etc.) and provide support per their health plans
- Administer medications to students in accordance with physician and parent instructions
- Notify parents of illness or injury and document all visits to the health office
- Maintain a calm and comforting environment for sick or anxious students
Health Compliance & Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate health and immunization records for all students
- Track and report communicable diseases in accordance with district and state guidelines
- Ensure all required immunization and health documentation is submitted and compliant
- Assist with screenings (vision hearing scoliosis) as needed
Health & Safety Monitoring
- Monitor hygiene supplies and ensure the health office is clean sanitized and fully stocked
- Support school-wide health-related protocols (e.g. during flu season or public health concerns)
- Collaborate with custodial staff and administrators to maintain safe health practices across campus
- Assist with the implementation of COVID-19 protocols and communication if necessary
Family & Staff Communication
- Serve as liaison between families and the school regarding student health concerns
- Communicate clearly professionally and with empathy about student needs and care plans
- Support students with social-emotional concerns related to physical well-being or anxiety
Performance Goals
- Health Compliance: Immunization & health records completion 100% on file by deadlines
- Student Safety: Accurate and timely medication administration 100% compliance
- Response Time: Response to student health needs during school hours Immediate/within 5 mins
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- First Aid and CPR certified (or willingness to obtain before school year begins)
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to maintain student confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Experience working with children
- Prior experience in a school or medical setting
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Familiarity with student health records systems or databases
$16.75 - $19.37 an hour
Competitive hourly wage based on experience
