The Waterfront Engineering Organization Test & Evaluation (T&E) Assistant Engineer (AE) is responsible for supporting the total Ship Comprehensive Test Plan (SCTP).

The successful candidate will perform duties that include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop review revise and maintain 400 per hull BIW written/BIW conducted Test Procedures (TP).
  • Review revise and maintain 130 per hull Gov written/BIW conducted TPs.
  • Witness onboard Hull Mechanical Electrical and Combat Systems testing and create Final Test Reports (FTR) for 530 BIW conducted TPs.
  • Support Hull Mechanical Electrical and Combat Systems testing during various ship activation periods including sea trials.
  • Provide test support to multiple ship programs.
  • Research change impacts to BIW conducted TPs.
  • Work closely with manufacturing ATT and Navy personnel throughout the development execution and approval cycle of the test program.
  • Help resolve emergent test procedure issues on the deck plates.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of all T&E BMDA responsible documents.
  • As directed by the Programs Division support Sea Trials data room setup special intercommunications instrumentation supporting aircraft and special support items as required. This includes supporting the Pilot House communications as requested by the Captain an officer of the watch or Management.
  • Support Sea Trial 1MC and phone communications as requested by the Captain an officer of the watch or Management.
  • Provide load test support including TP writing TP revisions witnessing and FTRs.

Required/Preferred Education/Training

    • Ability to obtain Secret and / or Top Secret Security Clearance.
  • Preferred
    • BIW Apprentice or 2 year technical degree in Marine Engineering.

Required/Preferred Experience

    • Significant experience in a shipyard test environment.
    • Ability to interpret test requirements and perform required calculations.
    • Broad knowledge of general ship design construction and test program processes.
    • Demonstrated organizational and peopleskills.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and effectiveness with Microsoft Office applications.
    • Ability to support temporary off shift or second shift tests and Sea Trials.
  • Preferred
    • 5 years in an engineering / manufacturing environment.
    • Navy Combat Systemsrelated or Shipboard Electrical experience.
    • Prior experience with BIW system diagrams and Navy Ship Specifications.
  • This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance. You must be a US Citizen for consideration and you must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire.
