Department Summary

The Department of the History of Art & Architecture (HAA) offers undergraduate Masters and PhD programs in the history theory and criticism of art architecture and visual culture. It is also home to the Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies.

Position Summary

The Department of the History of Art and Architecture is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Architectural History of the Americas for theacademic year. The successful candidate will teach seven classes (2/2/3) including both halves of our survey History of World Architecture (prehistorymedieval and Renaissancecontemporary) as well as undergraduate and graduate courses on the architectural history of the Americas. We welcome applicants specializing in any aspect of the architectural history of the Americas. A research focus on regionalism (especially the Pacific Northwest/Oregon) or North American indigenous architecture or vernacular architecture is especially welcome. Applicants with related interests in design and urban history are also invited to apply.

Minimum Requirements

Ph.D. in Art and/or Architectural History or other related field required prior to appointment; ABD may also be considered.
Visiting faculty must hold a like or relevant position at another institution or have recently obtained a terminal degree.

Professional Competencies

Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively and facilitate student learning.
Ability to work cooperatively with diverse faculty and student populations.
Ability to conduct independent highquality scholarship or creative practice.

Preferred Qualifications

Excellent record of scholarly creative or other professional accomplishment in relevant field.
Prior college or universitylevel teaching experience.
