Job Description

JOB GOAL:

The primary goal is to empower students with proficient reading skills which are crucial for their academic growth and future success.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

9.25month teaching contract (190 days) plus benefits package. Salary Range: $50000 $79028. Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based on education and experience.FLSA: EXEMPT.

Assigned Principal

DIRECT REPORT(s)

None

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Meet Arkansas K6 teaching (code 253) licensure requirements with at least three years of classroom teaching experience in literacy.
  2. RISE Training completed and demonstrated proficiency in the Science of Reading according to Arkansas educational standards. Coursework or professional development in literacy/dyslexia emphasizing the science of reading.
  3. Masters in Reading Curriculum or Special Education (PREFERRED).
  4. Certification in Dyslexia Therapy or Wilson Reading Dyslexia Practitioner completed or in progress (PREFERRED).
  5. Demonstrate leadership abilities flexible thinking and the ability to work well and collaborate.
  6. Willingness to attend applicable training some of which may occur during the summer or offcontract hours.

Such alternatives and additions to the above qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements of duties and responsibilities describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.

  1. Utilize district procedures to screen assess and identify students with characteristics of dyslexia.
  2. Determine appropriate interventions for students with reading difficulties.
  3. Using the dyslexia program (s) identified by the district provide highquality customized intervention to students identified as exhibiting characteristics associated with dyslexia.
  4. Provide interventions for other atrisk students as identified by district protocols.
  5. Progress monitors students individually weekly to determine their response to intervention and make instructional adjustments as needed.
  6. Identify students not making adequate progress and refer them for additional testing/services as needed.
  7. Regularly communicate with parents teachers and buildinglevel and districtlevel staff about the progress of individual students receiving reading intervention services.
  8. Attend additional training to maintain proficiency in districtadopted programs for dyslexia and/or reading interventions.
  9. Work with district dyslexia specialists to complete job requirements including screenings assessments interventions and documentation required by dyslexia law.
  10. Assume other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Other Job Functions

  1. Maintain emotional control under stress.
  2. Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  3. Maintain accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy and administrative regulation.

Mental Functions Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit stand walk go up and down stairs operate foot and hand controls use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to fifty (50) or more pounds. This position requires accurately perceiving sound near and far vision depth perception handling and working with educational materials and/or objects and providing oral information. Must be able to work for the duration of the daily contracted period and be physically present and at assigned work with only infrequent unexcused absences during the contract year. Additional technical skills knowledge and abilities may be recommended by the supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
