Position: Coordinator of Family and Community Engagement
Location: Central Office
Reports to: Director of Federal Programs
Length of Employment: 240 (FLEX) days
Salary: As per Berkeley County pay schedule with years of experienceand degree levelCoordinator index
Purpose: Under the direction of the Director of Federal Programs the Family and Community Engagement Coordinator will develop and implement district and schoolbased programs which leverage the resources of the broader Berkeley County community in order to serve the social emotional physical and educational needs of its children and families.
Family Engagement is defined as the participation of parents guardians and/or adult family members directly involved with the wellbeing of the child in regular twoway and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities. Community Engagement refers to all others who are involved in supporting the child including but not limited to neighbors school staff and local businesses. Berkeley County Schools strives to develop a full partnership with parents/guardians family members and community members while providing a quality education for all students.
Qualifications:
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Serves as a liaison between the school district (district schools) and parents/guardians families and community members relaying the needs of one to the other; educates teachers and service staff on how to communicate and work effectively with parents all stakeholders as equal partners; advises and trains parents/guardians/family members on how to address issues with the leadership staff in school meetings; expands opportunities for continued learning voluntary community service and civic participation; develops community collaborations; helps parents/guardians/family members understand the educational system so they can become better advocates for their childrens education; develops and maintains a parent/guardian/family member resource center.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand talk hear walk and sit. While performing the duties of this job the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50lbs such as boxes of books and device carts. The employee is directly responsible for safety wellbeing or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Duties are performed indoors and occasionally outdoors. This position requires travel from school to school.
