Experience:
Minimum of 3 years experience working with and coordinating
programs for at risk students.
Terms of Employment:
Commensurate with experience per adopted teacher salary schedule.
Benefits package per teacher plan.
Regular teacher contract on special assignment with modified calendar.
Per negotiated agreement.
Salary dependent upon education and experience.
Ranges from 46054 to 85286.
Job Goal:
Provide services to the children and youth in the McKinneyVento Program to help them overcome obstacles and barriers to receiving an education and to assist family with social services needs
Performance Responsibilities:
- Understand all federal guidelines as they pertain to the eligibility of children and provision of services for the McKinneyVento Homeless Program.
- Understand and have knowledge of the McKinneyVento Act.
- Coordinate with school staff to assist with services and supplies that benefits children youth and families.
- Assist families with resources and services to overcome homelessness.
- Advocate and expedites services for our homeless population.
- Assist with identification enrollment and attendance and academic success of homeless children and youth.
- Ensure that homeless children and youth are identified and enrolled by school personnel and through coordination activities with other entities and agencies.
- Ensure the identification enrollment and attendance of homeless children and youths who are not currently attending school.
- Ensure Ohio/MCS homeless enrollment dispute process is followed and documented when disputes arise regarding enrollment of homeless or children or youth.
- Check on enrollment records and identify support needs if . assist with IEPs and with parent/guardian questions.
- Assist with placing children in tutoring mentoring or after school programs.
- Ensure access for high schools students to programs that provide tutoring support and credit recovery service learning and college/career readiness experiences.
- Develop programs and trainings for school personnel (ESPs principals and other school leaders attendance officers teachers enrollment personnel and specialized instructional support personnel) to heighten the awareness of school personnel of the specific needs of homeless children and youths.
- Ensure that the transportation is provided at the request of the parent or guardian (or in the case of an unaccompanied youth the liaison) to and from the school of origin.
- Build support and partnership within the grants communities among human service agencies faithbased organizations related service providers schools and businesses to facilitate awareness and understanding of homeless issues as well as coordination of services to homeless students.
- Coordinate the identification and provision of services with local social services agencies and other agencies or programs providing services to homeless children and youth and their families including those funded under the Runaway and Homeless Youth Act other local education agencies state and local housing agencies and others.
- Coordinate services through ongoing and regular contact with community agencies and entities e.g. service groups social service agencies faith communities etc.
- Provide evidence of community partnerships through include logs meeting minutes correspondence agendas etc.
- Network with community agencies to provide appropriate referrals to agencies organizations housing and health care.
- Monitor attendance truancy and required EMIS data of homeless students.
- Ensure that public notice of the educational rights of homeless children and youth is disseminated where such children and youth receive services in the schools and community (NCHE posters brochures and parent information). Document that information shows the name and contract information for local and state liaisons.
- Maintain documentation on all services provided to children and youth.
- Ensures the safety of students.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent.
Required knowledge skills and abilities:
- Maintain appropriate licenses/endorsements and training hours as required.
- Comply with applicable District state local and federal laws rules and regulations.
- Adhere to all standards established by the Ohio Department of Education for Licensed Educators.
- Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
- Maintain knowledge of academic area teaching methodology and strategies to engage students.
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Exhibit professional behavior emotional stability and sound judgement.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships.
- Attends meetings professional development and serves on staff committees as required.
- Interacts in a positive manner with staff students and parents.
- Refer suspected cases of child abuse immediately to the appropriate child protective services/law enforcement agency as mandated by state law and Board of Education policy.
- Promote good public relations by personal appearance attitude and conversation.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect district equipment materials and facilities.
- Plans purposeful assignments for educational assistants (paraprofessionals) volunteers and student teachers.
Conduct:
Each staff member shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Boards policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
