JOB SUMMARY

This position plans work activities for multiskilled work teams to provide costeffective maintenance and inspection of Charlotte Waters Collection and Distribution systems. Coordinates and communicates with others regarding planning/field assignments SSO reduction efforts sewer cleaning quality assurance/quality control and creates monitors and closes work orders; analyzes data and information to best assess repair issues; makes sure traffic control is provided on major streets; and pulls nonemergency backlog work when possible. This position uses logistical analytical and technical skills to provide support to field teams completing repairs and project work.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Calls in locates (underground utility lines) following proper 811 guidelines.
  • Visits work sites daily to identify challenges the crew may face on the job and makes arrangements to minimize those challenges.
  • Take preplanning photographs of work site where work is to be performed.
  • Contact customers and/or businesses affected by scheduled work to performed.
  • Coordinate all safety required needs with internal staff as well as communication with local and state agencies.
  • Ensures that SSO timelines identified within Department response processes are met accordingly.
  • Creates reviews and closes work orders ensuring all information is included in a timely manner.
  • Prioritizes proactive and reactive maintenance.
  • Maintains a 30day planned work schedule of repair and maintenance work orders ensuring Divisional repair goals are met.
  • Provides assistance and expertise in updating the Zone Operations Plan.
  • Assists Zone teams with development and implementation of standard work order documentation procedures.
  • Assists teams with using the work priority system to categorize current work order backlog. Runs reports as requested.
  • Responds to customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner both in the office and out in the field.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited school.
  • Five (5) years of water/wastewater work experience.
  • Two (2) year College Degree with Three (3) years of experience.

Licenses Certifications or Registrations:

  • Requires valid drivers license.
  • Must obtain and maintain a city drivers permit.
  • Desires certifications in Word Excel and GIS mapping.
  • Requires the following certifications/ or ability to obtain required certifications within 2 years of hire: Wastewater Collections Grade I Water Distribution C; Street Cut certification.
  • Completed (or obtains with required time frame of hire) Confined Space training.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of computer software (ArcMapGIS WAM IT Pipes Word Excel Outlook).
  • Skill in communicating both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read maps and plans.
  • Ability to generate maps.
  • Ability to analyze problems and data.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is light work and requires applying 10 pounds of force frequently exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. Additionally the following physical abilities are required: balancing climbing manual dexterity grasping handling perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels distinguishing among sounds kneeling lifting mental acuity pulling pushing reaching repetitive motion speaking standing stooping talking visual acuity in data/color/equipment/inspections and walking.
