JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Supervisor of Special Education the Special Education Teacher Specialist will support special education students in Caroline County Public Schools. The Special Education Teacher Specialist works directly with special education teachers across the district to support high quality developmentally appropriate instructional practices in classrooms. This position also involves developing and delivering professional development opportunities and sustaining curriculum practices that foster innovation and high quality learning experiences. The Special Education Teacher Specialist functions as an instructional colleague is not part of school administration and does not participate in the evaluation of teacher performance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Maryland Teaching Certificate in Special Education.
- At least three (3) years of successful teaching experience.
- Demonstrate evidence of leadership ability.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience in specially designed instruction behavior support special education compliance (IDEA/COMAR) and MTSS.
- Experience in assessment administration data collection progress monitoring and analysis.
- Ability to work with an ethnically and educationally diverse group of students parents and school staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ensures compliance with all applicable local state and/or federal regulations.
- Establishes procedures timetables forms recordkeeping procedures and other administrative tools required for the efficient operation of the school and districts special education program.
- Assists in all aspects of the IEP process including facilitating an IEP Team and/or Student Assistant Team meeting and the development of standardsbased IEPs.
- Coaches special education teachers on highleverage practices to help narrow the achievement gap including specially designed instruction coteaching and effective uses of technology.
- Monitors program effectiveness by gathering manipulating and analyzing assessment results at the school level and provides support to teachers as needed.
- Provides accurate program evaluation information and reports as requested by the Supervisor of Special Education Coordinators of Special Education and/or the principal.
- Plan/Implement/Coordinate Professional Development opportunities including but not limited to: specially designed instruction progress monitoring writing standardsbased IEPs and behavior supports.
- Provide technical assistance to staff in all areas related to creating specially designed instruction behavior support coteaching progress monitoring and MTSS.
- Provide consultation and best practices in coteaching service delivery models specially designed instruction data collection and classroom management.
- Models highquality instruction to students who are at risk in reading writing or math.
- Accepts other duties as may be assigned which are related to the scope of the job.
PAY & HOURS: This position is an 11month position with a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. Salary and benefits based upon the Negotiated Agreement Between the Board of Education of Caroline County and the Caroline County Educators Association.
