Job description:
The Nanoscale Optical Bioimaging group aims at developing innovative optical microscopy techniques to create new tools for studying biological processes in real time at nanoscale resolution. Our lab is rooted in the belief that scientific challenges can be overcome by combining ideas and approaches from different disciplines. Therefore multidisciplinary research encompassing biology chemistry physics and engineering is at the core of our work.
We are looking for a highly motivated student with a strong interest in microscopy development and bioimaging. Our work depends on interdisciplinary research and collaboration with biological research groups. The research project aims at developing and constructing innovative microscopes which push beyond the current limitations of optical microscopy and to apply them in biological research.
Required qualifications:
Master of Science (.) in a relevant subject (such as physics biology chemistry or engineering).
Solid written and spoken English
Willingness to learn new skills beyond own field
Expertise in programming (at least one of the following Python MatLab C C C#)
Desirable Skills & Attributes
Knowledge of mechanical/electronical engineering applicable to microscope development
Experience in optical design
Initial exposure or experience with biochemistry
Our offer:
The fulltime position is available immediately. Ph.D. students are awarded a fouryear appointment after a successful evaluation by the International Max Planck Research School for Cell Developmental and Systems Biology (IMPRSCellDevoSys). Salary and social benefits will be under the regulations of the German TVD Bund (salary agreement for public service employees).
