Job Description

Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Residential Life and Integrated Learning serves as a senior leader within the Division of Student Affairs and a core member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team (SALT). This dynamic and studentcentered leader will oversee a portfolio that includes Student Housing Student Leadership Development the Pam Rector Center for Service and Action Campus Recreation and Student Facilities and the broader work of integrated learning across cocurricular spaces.

The AVP provides strategic leadership fiscal oversight and highlevel management across these areas to foster a seamless and holistic educational experience that integrates academic personal and ethical growth. The AVP will work closely with Academic Affairs Auxiliary Services Facilities Management and other key university units to connect classroom learning with cocurricular and residential life experiences.

Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Provide strategic direction and supervision for a portfolio of departments serving over 3000 residential students and thousands more engaged in leadership service and recreation initiatives.
  • Advance a unified vision for residential life and integrated learning that enhances student success belonging retention and graduation.
  • Serve as a key divisional strategist for building a vibrant campus community that bridges academic and student life.
  • Manage departmental budgets strategic planning and program development.
  • Collaborate with the Business Operations Manager to maintain sound financial practices and resource stewardship.

Residential Life and Student Housing

  • Supervise the Director of Student Housing and provide oversight of all policies staffing and longterm planning related to the residential experience.
  • Ensure commitment to operational excellence in housing assignments occupancy management and customer service.
  • Partner to strengthen faculty engagement through Living Learning Communities (LLCs) facultyinresidence programs and cocurricular collaborations with Academic Affairs.
  • Support offcampus housing experience and neighborhood relations.
  • Serve as university lead for residential crisis response student concerns and emergency preparedness in housing.

Supervision of Key CoCurricular Units

Provide strategic supervision and direction to the directors of key departments that shape student engagement wellbeing leadership and service. These departments are distinct in focus but united in their contribution to LMUs mission of developing the whole person through integrated cocurricular learning.

  • Supervise the Director of Campus Recreation and Student Facilities providing leadership and guidance to advance wellness belonging and student leadership through recreational sports fitness programming and studentcentered facilities that serve the entire campus community.
  • Supervise the Director of the Pam Rector Center for Service and Action ensuring the continued growth of LMUs flagship center for community engagement. Support missionaligned initiatives such as service immersion programs and advocacy.
  • Supervise the Director of Student Leadership Development guiding the strategic development of student leadership registered student organizations (including fraternities and sororities) leadership formation and student programming.
  • Provide oversight and alignment across these departments to ensure they contribute to an integrated vibrant student life experience that supports LMUs values and educational priorities.

Integrated Learning & CrossDivisional Collaboration

  • Lead integrated learning efforts that connect cocurricular programs to the academic mission through collaborative partnerships with faculty.
  • Support assessment and outcomes measurement related to learning student development and holistic education.
  • Support staff shaping initiatives and programs that empower students to connect their intellectual leadership service and wellness journeys.

Crisis Management & Emergency Preparedness

  • Serve on the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and advise executive leadership during crises.
  • Coordinate incident response strategies including those involving residential students crisis management and campus safety.
  • Build relationships with key partners such as Public Safety Facilities General Counsel and University Communications.

Divisional Leadership and Community Relations:

  • Actively engage in divisional fundraising and alumni relations efforts to enhance student experience initiatives.
  • Represent the division on various committees.
  • Promote the university by participating in community state and national events or meetings.

Requisite Qualifications

  • Typically a masters degree in higher education administration student affairs counseling or a related field is required; a doctorate is preferred. The incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge skills and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.

  • At least seven (7) years of progressive leadership experience including five (5) years in a directorlevel role or above.

  • SupervisoryExperience:At least five (5) years of experience supervising and mentoring fulltime student affairs supervising and managing the delivery of student success services efficiently; effectively synthesizing information from various sources to be used in management decisions.

  • Residential Life and Housing:At least five (5) yearsof experience within residential life and student housing operations.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience within campus recreation student leadership development or related areas.

  • Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and enforce University in interpersonal relations and a demonstrated ability to understand and work with diverse groups including faculty staff parents and students.

  • Experience with crisis management student conduct and supporting students in highimpact and highstakes situations.

  • Expertise in leading crossfunctional teams budget management strategic planning and operational oversight.

  • Strong commitment to integrated learning cocurricular education and collaboration with academic units.

  • Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex highly technical information.

  • Highly developed organizational and leadership skills including conflict management and mediation; completing administrative tasks; prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.

Salary range: $190000$200000 annually depending upon experience
