Job Title: Nurse Substitute Wage/Status: Exempt

Reports to: Head of School or Designated Administrator
GENERAL JOB SUMMARY
Provide temporary on-call health services to students in the absence of the full-time school nurse. Implement the schools health policies and procedures to address student medical needs promote health and safety and maintain a healthy school environment.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license from the Texas Board of Nursing
- Current AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and CPR certifications
- Fingerprinting and criminal background check required
- Compliance with TEA regulations and the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators
Experience:
- Preferred: Two (2) years of experience working with children in a healthcare or educational setting
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong assessment organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to different environments and situations
- Knowledge of student health issues emergency protocols and medication administration
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students as needed
- Communicate with parents regarding student illness injury or health concerns; arrange emergency care when appropriate
- Serve as a health advocate for students.
- Ensure that medications are administered to students according to Westlake Academy policy and procedures.
- Collaborate closely with school staff and administration to promote a healthy school environment
- Assist with crisis response and participate in the reporting of suspected child abuse in coordination with school leadership
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws Texas Department of Health rule State Board of Education rule and board policy. Comply with all Academy rules and regulations.
- Maintain accurate and confidential health records and documentation for students seen during the assignment
- Monitor and support students with chronic conditions or individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) as needed
- Follow all school safety and emergency procedures while on assignment
Other Duties
- Perform other health services-related tasks as assigned by the Head of School or designee

Environment:Exposure to biological hazards bacteria and communicable diseases
Mental Demands:Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
