The Danvers Public Schools is seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Middle School Team Chairperson to lead and support special education programming for students in grades 68. This leadership position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of highquality special education services through collaboration program coordination staff support and procedural compliance. The Team Chairperson will work in partnership with building administrators service providers and families to ensure students receive individualized supports aligned with state and federal mandates.
Chair initial and reevaluation Section 504 meetings ensuring compliance with federal and district guidelines and appropriate documentation of student needs and accommodations.Key Responsibilities:
Staff Management & Professional Support
Collaborate with principals and assistant directors in conducting observations and evaluations of special education teachers and related service providers.
Plan and lead professional development for special education staff to enhance instructional effectiveness and compliance.
Serve on hiring committees for special education and administrative positions.
Provide ongoing support for instructional assistants and coordinate regular checkins with teachers.
Program Oversight & Instructional Planning
Partner with teachers administrators and curriculum directors to create skillbased intervention groupings and make informed referrals for special education evaluations.
Consult with staff to design specially tailored academic behavioral and socialemotional instruction for students with diverse needs.
Conduct observations of referred students to support datadriven eligibility and programming discussions.
Attend biweekly meetings with the Director of Student Services to review programs discuss student needs and monitor budget impact.
Participate in the Special Education Parent Advisory Committee (SEPAC) and collaborate on family engagement efforts at the middle school level.
IEP & Evaluation Process Coordination
Initiate and coordinate the special education evaluation process including testing schedules paperwork and meetings
Chair all Eligibility Evaluation meetings for middle school students and ensure adherence to required timelines.
Chair initial and reevaluation Section 504 meetings ensuring compliance with federal and district guidelines and appropriate documentation of student needs and accommodations.
Manage calendars and ensure timely communication of meeting notices to families and staff.
Lead weekly status meetings with special education EL and nursing staff to review progress ensure compliance and support highquality instruction.
Oversee development of IEPs and maintain consistency in programming goals and services across the middle school level.
Serve as a liaison to parents throughout the IEP process providing guidance and promoting collaborative team discussions.
Participate in mediation and settlement conferences with the Bureau of Special Education Appeals as needed.Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Special Education Educational Leadership or a related field required.
Minimum of five years of experience in special education; experience in a leadership or team chair role strongly preferred.
Deep understanding of IDEA Section 504 and best practices in special education service delivery.
Strong interpersonal organizational and leadership skills.
