Job Description

Do you love teaching learning caring for patients and working with wonderful clients

The Small Animal Community Practice (SACP) is looking for a veterinary technician to join our team. We are committed to providing excellent patientfocused care in a general practice setting and teaching the next generation of veterinarians.

What will you do

  • Join our team of dedicated veterinarians LVTs practice manager client service representatives and animal care attendants
  • Conduct diagnostic testing using our stateoftheart equipment including ultrasound digital radiograph and IDEXX pointofcare equipment
  • Run your own appointments
  • Collaborate with veterinarians and veterinary students to provide high quality patient care
  • Manage anesthesia in our dedicated induction room two surgical suites and fully equipped dental suite
  • Teach veterinary students essential skills including vaccine administration venipuncture animal restraint appointment flow and client communication
  • Manage patient charts with our integrated Electronic Medical Record (ezyVet) and Inventory management (Cubex) with onsite technical support.
  • Work in an American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) Certified hospital opened in 2018 with a spacious treatment area and felinefriendly spaces
  • Shape the future of veterinary care helping us to expand our primary care veterinary education and clinical services

  • Work an 8am5pm Monday Friday schedule subject to change depending on business needs

Employees working in the hospital must receive the preexposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire which will be paid for by the department.

Required Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Veterinary Technology with at least 1 year of LVT experience preferably with anesthesia and surgical experience or equivalent combination.
  • NYS Licensure or eligible to secure NYS Licensure
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position which includes but are not limited to stressful situations prolonged standing and kneeling lifting heavy patients which may exceed 50 pounds.
  • Ability to restrain cats and dogs appropriately as well as feel comfortable handling feral/fractious cats.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop excellent working relationships including communicating with staff students technicians veterinarians and clients in a professional manner always.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member as well as independently in a fastpaced demanding environment handling multiple tasks with competing deadlines while paying close attention to details.
  • Ability to receive and offer constructive criticism.
  • Must have and maintain a valid drivers license.
  • Ability to learn and master the practice electronic medical record system ezyVet as well as other integrated systems such as point of care and dispensing systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous private practice experience is a plus.

Important Details about the Position

  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca NY.
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship now or in the future for this position.
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.

This position may include a rotating Saturday schedule as well as primary responsibility for SOS and HQHVSN Clinic days. The Cornell University Hospital for Animals provides 24hour care for pets 365 days of the year. The schedule for this position requires flexibility to ensure that adequate patient care and service needs are provided without interruption or exception. Schedule will require/include weekend holiday and night shifts as well as weekend day shifts.
