What You Will Be Doing:
This position will demonstrate the understanding of the concept of therapeutic milieu and the flow of how the Nursing Units run and teach other. You will lead and personally assist patients in becoming selfreliant in daily living activities such as oral hygiene preparing for meals toileting or preparing for bed. You will also demonstrate and direct others in intervening appropriately (nonverbally verbally and physically) in dealing with patients who may harm themselves or others as well as leading staff and patients in maintaining an orderly therapeutic environment. You will observe and document patient behavior accurately in an Electronic Health Record (EHR).

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
The selected candidate will work in an environment that is fast paced busy and challenging at times but embraces collaboration through working closely with supervisors managers and personnel to assist in providing services to Alaska Psychiatric Institute.
This position is located at 3700 Piper Street in the UMED district of east Anchorage which offers several maintained walking trails parks and nearby lakes. This area is filled with several restaurants shopping stores and has easy access to public transportation.

To view the general description and example of duties please go to the following link: QualificationsOne year of specific experience performing a wide variety of paraprofessional psychiatric nursing duties designed to provide care treatment and rehabilitation to psychiatric or developmentallychallenged patients. This experience is met by service as a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant 3.
OR
Three years of experience directly working with and providing paraprofessional aide treatment and/or rehabilitation services to patients or clients who have been diagnosed with or experience mental illness behavioral or cognitive disorders and/or addiction as part of assisted living independent living or treatment services home or facility setting.
Substitution:
Postsecondary education in psychology sociology mental health and/or chemical dependency may substitute for up to twelve months of the requisite experience (2.67 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).
Special Note:
Some positions may require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation including fingerprinting as a prerequisite to employment. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.
Some positions may require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire. Employees are required to be tested annually. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.Additional Required Information
At time of interview applicant must submit:
List of two (2) professional references including daytime phone numbers.
Copies of all performance evaluations that have been received for the last two (2) years if available.
College transcripts (if using education to meet the minimum qualifications). These can also be attached to your application at the time of submission.

1. Submit to fingerprinting and background check screening.
2. Provide proof of Tetanus Diphtheria Pertussis (Tdap) Mumps Measles Rubella (MMR) and Varicella Immunizations.
3. Provide proof of Hepatitis B (immunity or declination statement)
4. Provide annual Influenza vaccination or a signed declination statement.
5. Proof of Tuberculosis screening within past 12 months.
BACKGROUND CHECK
The successful candidate must pass a comprehensive background investigation which includes a state and FBI fingerprintbased background check.
