The Kelly School is home to the Caminos duallanguage program where students learn gradelevel content in both Spanish and English. Caminos is in its 23rd year and is entering a period of exciting expansion! As Caminos grows from a strand to a wholeschool model over the next few years we are strengthening our Tier 1 bilingual instruction and expanding our Tier 2 instructional supports to help deliver on our belief that every child can become bilingual and biliterate.
Position Description:
The Caminos Classroom Teacher position provides gradelevel instruction 100% in Spanish as part of the Caminos Dual Language Program in Chelsea Public Schools that serves students in Grades 16 at the Kelly Elementary School. The Caminos Teacher will work collaboratively with an English teaching partner as well as service providers to support students bilingualism biliteracy and academic language acquisition in both languages. The qualified candidate must be bilingual and biliterate knowledgeable in language acquisition practices and highly collaborative.
Job Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate academic/professional level oral and written Spanish (required)
- Demonstrate commitment to equity biliteracy and student outcomes
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues
- Bring academic background or practical experience teaching reading to primaryage students (in English or Spanish) adapting instruction to students strengths and interests intervening when learners struggle using data to guide instruction and familiarity with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Response to Intervention (RTI) approaches.
- Responsible for effective planning and assessment of curriculum and instruction;
- Meets and instructs assigned students in the locations and at the time designated;
- Plans a program of study that as much as possible meets the individual needs interests and abilities of the students;
- Responsible for effective instruction which includes making learning goals clear to the students using appropriate instructional and questioning techniques;
- Responsible for using innovative approaches and instructional strategies including the effective use of technologies to increase student learning and confidence to learn;
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students;
- Responsible for the promotion of high standards and expectations for student achievement and behavior;
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum standards and establishes clear objectives which reflect these standards for all lessons units and projects;
- Implements the districts mission philosophy of education and instructional standards and objectives;
- Assesses and documents the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required;
- Documents the learning problems of students and seeks the assistance of district specialists as required.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities;
- Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy and administrative regulation;
- Assists administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just manner;
- Makes provision for being available to students and parents for educationrelated purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms;
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence especially as relates to the specific assignment and student grade and subject area appropriateness;
- Attends staff meetings as required;
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with others;
- Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students colleagues and parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of assigned students;
- Responsible for the promotion of equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning including for implementing specific strategies for students with special needs with 504 plans andor second language learners;
- Responsible for providing equal educational opportunity to all individuals regardless of race color gender age marital status homelessness religion national origin or disability;
- Responsible to support students with disabilities in a general education setting.
- Performance of other jobrelated duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
- Possess experience teaching diverse learners in an urban setting with a track record of strong student growth
- A Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university;
- Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education teacher licensure in grade and subject area appropriate for the assignment;
- Bilingual Spanish;
- Sheltered English Immersion Endorsement for core content teachers;
- Ability to work with diverse population;
- Knowledge of MA Curriculum frameworks curriculum instruction and assessment;
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction and response to intervention helpful
- Citizenship residency or work visa required

Terms:The length of the school day is 6.5 hours but subject to longer hours for schools with extended day. The number of school days are184 days. See salary information on the CPS website.
