Summary
Support students in grades 6–12 as a Special Education Teacher in a communitybased nonclassroom role. Rather than working in a school building you’ll meet students in everyday community settings like libraries Starbucks or local resource centers. Caseloads are kept intentionally small and manageable and you’ll serve students primarily in the designated counties—with occasional travel to nearby areas if needed based on student assignments. Community Support Staff (paras) assist students daily while you provide the instructional leadership IEP guidance and oversight across the week.
What You’ll Do
  • Provide individualized academic instruction to students in nontraditional community locations such as libraries coffee shops and resource centers
  • Collaborate with Community Support Staff (paras) who work daily with students to implement IEPs and learning plans
  • Travel to student sites throughout the week based on caseload (3–5 days/week) with mileage reimbursement for trips beyond standard commute
  • Serve as the primary instructional lead for students setting educational goals and monitoring progress
  • Coordinate directly with principals families and other staff to ensure each student’s academic success
  • Contribute to IEP documentation updates and student reports
  • Manage a dynamic weekly schedule with flexibility built in (e.g. midday breaks travel time)
Experience You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited university
  • Eligible for or actively pursuing MSDE Special Education Certification
  • Conditional certification available if enrolled in an MSDEapproved alternative prep program
  • Praxis completion may be required depending on GPA and degree (Reading Writing Math Special Ed Core)
  • Experience working with students with IEPs or in flexible/alternative settings preferred
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Must have reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout the week
