Title:
Technical WriterProgram Summary:
Your work will directly support the mission of the Surface Warfare Schools Command (SWSC)in our Newport Rhode Island location delivering clear accurate and wellorganized technical content. The center prepares Navy officer enlisted civilian personnel and international personnel to serve in a wide variety of challenging billets at sea. SWSC provides the fleet with engineering damage control firefighting and navigation training. In Newport and at the Basic Division Officer Courses in San Diego and Norfolk SWSC continues to instruct officers in leadership management navigation seamanship ship handling engineering and maritime warfighting to develop the necessary skillsets to succeed across a lifetime of training.
Job Summary:
KBR is seeking a Technical Writer to join our team. In this role you will be responsible for reviewing editing updating revising and formatting key instructional documents including Personnel Qualification Standards (PQS) Rate Training Manuals (RTMs) and NonResident Training Courses (NRTCs). Your contributions will play a critical role in preparing our military personnel by ensuring that training materials reflect the latest operational standards in surface warfare.
Note: Must be onsite telework is not permitted for this role.
Role and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with a team dedicated to excellence and innovation maintaining best practices in technical communication and instructional design.
This role is ideal for a writer who blends meticulous attention to detail with a deep understanding of technical content and compliance standards. Your expertise will ensure that our PQS RTMs and NRTCs not only meet current standards but also evolve in alignment with future training needs.

Document Review and Editing:
Analyze current PQS RTMs and NRTCs for content accuracy clarity and consistency.
Collaborate with subject matter experts and training coordinators to review and revise documentation.
Identify outdated practices or discrepancies and recommend necessary improvements.
Content Updating and Revision:
Revise and update technical content to reflect the latest operational standards and industry practices.
Incorporate feedback from stakeholders to ensure that all training materials remain relevant and effective.
Formatting and Compliance:
Utilize Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat to format and standardize documents according to established organizational and regulatory guidelines.
Ensure consistency in style tone and presentation across all documents aligning with surface warfare educational standards.
Quality Assurance:
Conduct thorough quality checks on revised materials to verify that changes meet all editorial and technical specifications.
Maintain version control and proper documentation of revisions ensuring traceability and compliance.
Project Collaboration and Management:
Work closely with the SWSC training teams and external consultants to keep documentation current with new policies and procedures.
Manage timelines and workflows to ensure timely completion of document updates and revisions.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree plus two years of related experience. In lieu of a bachelors degree 5 years in technical writing with a focus on complex or regulated content will be accepted.
Expertise with Microsoft Word Excel (advanced editing and formatting) and Adobe Acrobat for document creation annotation and finalization.
Must be able to work onsite daily; telework is not permitted for this role.
An active secret level security clearance is required.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in a military or surface warfare training environment is a significant asset.
Desired Qualifications:
Attention to Detail: Demonstrated ability to review intricate documents with precision ensuring all revisions adhere to compliance standards and internal style guides.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly translate technical information for diverse audiences.
