Cortex Team is Walmarts core A.I. conversational platform powering the vision of delivering the worlds best personal assistants to Walmarts customers accessible via natural voice commands text messages rich UI interactions and a mix of all of the above via multimodal experiences.
We believeconversationsare a natural and powerful user interface for interacting with technology and enable a richer customer experiences both online and instore. We are building and designing the next generation of Natural Language Understanding (NLU) services that other teams can easily integrate and leverage and build rich experiences: from pure voice and text shopping assistants (SiriSparky) to customer care channels to mobile apps with rich intertwined multimodal interaction modes ().

We need a passionate and seasoned manager to help us improve and evolve our capabilities taking into account the full conversational context multimodal interactions and an ever increasing list of use cases.
Come at the right time and you will have an enormous opportunity to shape the team and make a massive impact on the design architecture and implementation in the context of an innovative mission critical product driven by datascience used every day by people you know and which customers love.
This role leads overall programs partnering with project teams and business partners and supports problem solving efforts. You will provide leadership mentoring and coaching to team members along with supporting their development of business and technical skills. This is a highly technical data science team at the forefront of LLM productization so for this role you need to be tech savvy and have professional experience in one or more data science specializations preferably NLP. You will also need to be able to identify and develop top talent.
This role is also expected to collaborate with other Data Science Managers across the organization for aligning strategies and effectively managing talent. These responsibilities require effective communication skills building relationships and partnerships and leveraging business proficiency to solutions and recommendations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Masters degree in Computer Science Physics Mathematics Statistics Data Science or related technical discipline
- 3 years with an engineering or datascience individual contributor role.
- 2 years of handson management experience
- 2 years experience collaborate directly with cross functional team such as product business stakeholders on clarifying business requirement and presenting machine learning solutions
- Ability to manage innovative technology project
- Ability to manage multiple business stakeholders and technology leaders simultaneously.
- Strong Risk Management: Identify potential risks and escalate as needed identify critical path activities remove roadblocks to ensure progress
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal; ability to communicate at all levels; able to influence/challenge and negotiate with minimum direct supervision
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present technical solutions to nontechnical audiences
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions adapt to change
- Strong track record of identifying hiring nurturing and mentoring top talent
- Be handson in all aspects of the project lifecycle from requirements gathering data acquisition and preparation hypothesis generation ideation coding testing and deployment of data science products.

- Strong expertise and knowledge in deep learning NLP MLops and distributed systems
