The Boeing CompanyThe Boeing Defense Space and Security (BDS) Space Intelligence & Weapon Systems (SI&WS) division is seeking an Experienced or Lead GPS Technical Documentation Author for the Global Positioning System (GPS) IIF Program located in Colorado Springs CO. This position will be responsible for researching analyzing and compiling technical data to create and maintain comprehensive documentation that supports the sustainment and operational needs of the GPS IIF satellites. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technical writing particularly in the aerospace and defense sectors and familiarity with military standards.
GPS is a satellitebased radionavigation system owned by the United States government and operated by the United States Space Force. GPS is the worlds largest military satellite constellation and is the worlds only global utility. GPS provides position navigation and timing data to military and civilian users globally with countless applications and an unlimited number of users. Boeing has over 30 years of history in GPS to include achieving full system capability in 1995. The current Boeing team supports the US Space Force by sustaining and monitoring the health and capabilities of the 12 GPS Block IIF satellites in the GPS constellation launched from 2010 to 2016. The Boeing GPS sustainment team also provides support to its US Space Force customer with reports and expertise on all aspects of the GPS system. Sustainment efforts will continue through the life of the Block IIF satellites with a design life expectancy of 2031 and beyond. The program is currently operating under a 10year sustainment contract from 2022 to 2031.
Position Responsibilities:
Developing and maintaining operational and maintenance manuals for the GPS IIF satellites
Ensuring all documentation adheres to MILSTD38784 Manuals Technical: General Style and Format Requirements
Collaborating with engineers operators and other stakeholders to gather information and ensure accuracy in documentation
Utilizing software tools such as Adobe FrameMaker Visio (Pro) Adobe Acrobat Pro MS Word Excel PowerPoint and Project to create and format documents
Reviewing and editing technical documents for clarity consistency and compliance with established standards
Conducting research and analysis to support the creation of technical content
Managing document version control and ensuring timely updates to documentation as needed
Supporting the Configuration Management and Data Management (CM/DM) processes including the development and maintenance of process procedure and instruction documentation
Providing training and support to team members on documentation processes and tools
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelors Degree or higher from an accredited course of study or equivalent relevant work experience
5 years or more of experience in technical writing particularly in the aerospace or defense industry
Familiarity with MILSTD38784 and other relevant military documentation standards
Proficiency in technical writing software including Adobe FrameMaker Visio (Pro) Adobe Acrobat Pro MS Word Excel PowerPoint and Project
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience with Air/Space Force technical data including operational and maintenance manuals
Previous experience as a satellite operator or in a related role within the Space Force or similar organizations
Knowledge of GPS systems and satellite operations
Familiarity with Orbital Operations Handbooks (OOH) Technical Orders (TO) Electronic Command Plans (ECP) and Operations Perform Files (OPF)
