Director of Equity and Diversity

Montgomery County Public Schools in Virginia seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to champion student success by advancing the development and implementation of strategies that foster inclusion ensure equitable practices and celebrate the diversity of our students and the communities we serve.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Equity and Diversity is responsible for planning directing and monitoring programs and processes that promote and sustain diversity equity and respect as well as achieving the divisions goals and objectives related to diversity and equity. This role ensures equitable opportunities for all students while driving initiatives that align with the divisions mission.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Monitor processes to ensure equity compliance and adherence to division procedures state guidelines and federal regulations.
  • Review analyze and interpret equity data and trends in partnership with the Leadership Team to inform decisionmaking.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team to develop and implement comprehensive professional learning and coaching plans that build the mindsets and capacity of division staff to increase equitable outcomes for all students
  • Develop and provide training consultation and support to administrators teachers and schoolbased leadership teams to facilitate culturally competent pedagogy
  • Partner with Leadership Team members to design coaching training and project planning assistance to staff to ensure they design and execute their work with the equity commitment frame(s) within their respective departments.
  • Work closely with the Leadership Team to design implement and evaluate the impact of programs and strategies aimed at closing student opportunity and achievement gaps.
  • Model use of data to inform decisionmaking in all areas.
  • Ensure equitable access to highquality programs and partnerships for MCPS students and schools
  • Increase cultural competence and address implicit bias with division staff.
  • Establish working relationships with community organizations
  • Maintain a positive rapport and cooperative working relationships with parents staff and other district personnel
  • Maintain effective and timely written and oral communication with parents staff and other school personnel
  • Participate in district and school committees to promote equitable access and opportunities to highquality programs for MCPS students and schools
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent to provide guidance and support to the Equity Advisory Committee
  • Partner with the Director of Human Resources to advance diversity goals
  • Engage with student representatives to evaluate needs elevate student voice and gather insight.
  • Coordinate and develop effective communication strategies to enhance and support cultural diversity and issues of equity
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively give presentations before large groups of people
  • Demonstrate an ability to maintain an unquestionable degree of confidentiality
  • Demonstrate the ability to multitask work with interruptions and work under pressure
  • Demonstrate ability to be dependable punctual and complete tasks without direct supervision
  • Proficient with computers and productivity software including word processing email platforms internet browsing and relevant educational or operational software
  • Working knowledge of Google Workspace (Docs Sheets Slides Drive Gmail Calendar etc.)
  • Comfortable using cloudbased collaboration tools learning management systems and mobile devices to support instructional or operational needs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in Educational Leadership or Curriculum and Instruction from an accredited institution
  • Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teachers License with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK12
  • Possess superlative leadership abilities
  • Have experience with shareddecision making/collaborative leadership
  • Have three years of classroom teaching experience
  • Have three years of principal or central office leadership experience
  • Possess knowledge of current educational trends as they relate to equity and engagement

Salary: $98582.54 $177588.94 (commensurate with experience) with benefits (current salary may change due tobudget considerations)

FLSA: Exempt
