Position Overview
The role of the school counselor or social worker which is in alignment with the safe school
personnel guidance is to support the development of a safe and respectful positive school
climate according to the needs of the school and in order to address a variety of potential
barriers to academic success that may exist within the child home school and/or community.
1. Provide individual and group counseling services to students to support their academic
personal and socialemotional development.
2. Develop and implement schoolwide programs and initiatives that promote a positive
school culture and address the behavioral and social emotional needs of the student
population.
3. Collaborate with teachers administrators and other school staff to identify and address
student needs and provide appropriate referrals as needed.
4. Facilitate workshops and trainings for students families and staff on topics related to
student wellbeing such as stress management bullying prevention positive behavior
interventions and supports social and emotional learning traumainformed practices
suicide prevention and restorative justice.
5. Maintain confidential and accurate student records and reports including assessments
progress notes and referrals.
6. Analyze schoolwide data to identify areas for improvement and make recommendations
for programming enhancements in order to support the academic personal and
socialemotional growth of students.
7. Stay upto date with current research and best practices in the field of school counseling
and participate in professional development opportunities as needed.
8. Identify community resources connecting students families and staff to them as
needed and work with families to mobilize school and community resources.
9. Participate in special education section 504 school attendance meetings and
counseling services as appropriate.
10. Work alongside other school mental health staff school administration and/or outside
agencies to provide crisis support as deemed necessary.

Requirements
Holds appropriate credential/endorsement as a school counselor or social worker from
the respective state Department of Education.
School counselor or school social work experience is preferred.
Travel between campuses may be required.
The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history and background
check and/or other state specific clearance requirements.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by
an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Resources. Duties are performed typically in school and/or office settings throughout the
division. May include frequent walking standing stooping lifting up to approximately 25

Must be flexible with the working environment as specific duties assigned to the position
do not occur within a specific setting within the school environment; flexibility is needed.
