The Maine Center for Disease Control & Prevention is seeking a Tuberculosis Epidemiologist. In this position you will serve as an epidemiologist focusing on Infectious Diseases in Maine. You will be responsible for conducting public health surveillance of tuberculosis latent tuberculosis infection and other infectious airborne and direct contact illnesses. This position initiates public health actions to control and/or prevent the spread of these infectious diseases in Maine. You will develop manage and evaluate statewide infectious disease surveillance systems; conduct public health interventions; participate in outbreak investigations; and provide consultation on reportable disease conditions to protect the health of Maine citizens and visitors.

Core Responsibilities:

As a key member of the Infectious Disease Epidemiology team your core responsibilities will include:

Coordinating the collection analysis interpretation and dissemination of surveillance data to stakeholders.
Investigating all cases of active tuberculosis.
Collaborating with Public Health Nursing on the provision of directly observed therapy and contact investigations.
Providing professional consultations to program epidemiologists healthcare partners and the public.
Monitoring national and international disease trends and emerging threats.
Collaborating with Infectious Disease epidemiologists to improve program operations.
Providing input to public health policy initiatives based on surveillance and evaluation to reduce barriers to disease control and prevention.
Communicating epidemiological surveillance information effectively and accurately.
Serving as the EpidemiologistOnCall and AfterHours On Call on a rotating basis.
Participating in the daily Infectious Disease Epidemiology morning conference call.
Coordinating the statesponsored tuberculosis workgroup.
Assisting the Infectious Disease Prevention Program Director with writing the tuberculosis grant and completion of required reporting.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Masters Degree in Epidemiology or closely related field or a Bachelors Degree in Epidemiology or closely related field and two (2) years professional experience in epidemiology. Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a yearforyear basis.

Preferred candidates will have:

o Outstanding oral and written communication skills.

o Knowledge of and experience with infectious disease epidemiology particularly tuberculosis.

o Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external partners.

o Computer skills including Microsoft Office.

o Extensive database skills including creation management and integration of diverse datasets.

o Experience with statistical software (SAS experience is preferred).

o Knowledge and experience with drafting technical disease information for providers and the public.

o The ability to guide strategic discussions and help groups to reach decisions to further the mission of the Infectious Disease Prevention Program.

o Experience in or working knowledge of clinical laboratory testing.
