Job Description

Tennyson Center for Children is seeking qualified Nursingintern candidates currently enrolled in anaccredited program who are seeking direct experience prior to graduation. This is intended as a supplement to school clinical experiences.

Nursing Internships support the following programs: Day Treatment Community Based Services Residential and Admissions. Internships may be eligible for a stipend dependent upon university and program guidelines.


Essential Job Functions

  • Deliver safe compassionate highquality care to an assigned group of patients under the direct supervision of an RN.
  • Interest in working with children and adolescents who may have had exposure to adverse experiences and/or who may have an intellectual disability developmental disability or diagnosis of Autism.
  • Practice time management prioritization and selfmotivation to promote a positive and effective learning environment.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs reading current literature attending inservices meetings and workshops
  • Maintain up to date documentation including patient care observations and assessments in the electronic medical record
  • Maintains the highest standard of cultural competency in all dealings with clients and staff.
  • Must be willing to support clients in times of crisis.
  • Direct patient care including physical assessments and vital signs
  • Preparing and administering medications under the supervision of an RN
  • Create paper MARs for documentation of medication administration.
  • Review ICMPs and provide emotional support appropriately. Distinguish between somatic vs. psychosomatic complaints and treat appropriately.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of individualized patient care plans.

Other Job Functions

  • Participates in allagency meetings and training opportunities as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to implement behavioral management techniques as needed.
  • Must be able to receive detailed information through oral and written communication.
  • Must have visual acuity to read and comprehend written communication through a computer electronic devices and paper means.
  • Must be able to lift 25/50 lbs. or more.

Working Conditions

  • Position required to be inperson.
  • Oncampus school based day treatment setting oncampus residential setting.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Nursing program at an accredited institution.
  • Previous healthcare experience
  • CPR/ AED/ BLS Other BLS within 14 days

All positions require the successful completion of a criminal CBI background check FBI fingerprint check State of CO child abuse check (TRAILS) DMV driving record check preemployment drug test preemployment physical academic credential verification and reference check.
