Job Description

Overview:

Responsible for building student relationships monitoring and supporting the progress of student cohorts guiding and counseling students and directing and implementing discipline and attendance programs of the school. The Dean of Students will promote an effective learning environment keeping the Principal and school administrative team informed of progress and emerging issues.

Job Description:

  • Actively monitors and supports the progress of student cohorts (tracks student progress conferences with students communicates with families facilitates student intervention team meetings).
  • Assists the school administration by facilitating meetings (e.g. curriculum safety site advisory special district committees) for the purpose of coordinating activities and ensuring that outcomes achieve school district and/or state objectives.
  • Assists with school administrative functions (e.g. scheduling discipline faculty/staff support parent communication/conferences staffing) to ensure safe and efficient school operations are maintained within district guidelines.
  • Creates and provides a wide variety of reports (e.g. quantity reports student progress reports student intervention plans correspondence) to evaluate the progress and effectiveness of programs strategies student progress etc.
  • Assists the school administration with the management of building functions events and work activities.
  • Delegates responsibilities for a variety of administrative functions to other personnel to ensure efficiency and quality of work.
  • Facilitates communication between personnel students and/or parents for the purpose of monitoring student progress reporting student progress evaluating situations solving problems and/or resolving conflicts.
  • Facilitates the development communication implementation and evaluation of quality learning to enhance excellence equality and equity for staff and students.
  • Represents the school within community forums (e.g. PTO SIC and other meetings to include SIP IEP and Manifestation Hearings) for the purpose of maintaining ongoing community support for educational goals and/or assisting with issues related to the school environment.
  • Participates in meetings workshops and seminars as assigned to convey and/or gather information required to perform functions.
  • Assists with other duties as assigned to ensure school and program effectiveness.

Job Qualifications:

South Carolina Secondary Certification Required an advanced degree and a minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience.

Skill/Effort:

  • Ability to make sound recommendations for appropriate student outcomes and assists in the interpretation of programs policies and initiatives.
  • Ability to read interpret and explain materials from professional journals and books including school code and legal documents.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a variety of audiences and individuals.
  • Ability to interpret and administer board policy administrative procedures and State Law procedures affecting students lives in school.

Working Conditions:

Office environment with little exposure to environmental conditions. Physical demands are restricted to general office activities requiring the movement/lifting of items weighing up to twentyfive pounds. Routine local travel is required; occasional overnight travel is required. Requires the ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require considerable attention and meeting deadlines.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand walk sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is continuously interacting with the public staff and students. The employee frequently must meet multiple demands from several people. The employee is regularly required to sit and stand. The employee is required to walk; use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Occasionally the employee must use hand/grip strength to operate office equipment.

Terms of Employment:

Salary and work year are to be established by the Board.

Note: This is considered a temporary position. There is no guarantee this position will be extended beyond the 2324 school year.
