Thurston County Clerks Office is seeking a professional motivated and dependable candidate for the position of Domestic Violence Liaison to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for those with domestic violence crisis experience seeking to begin their career in the court system work in a great environment and receive excellent benefits. This position is responsible to coordinate domestic violence cases in the County Clerks Office by advising victims regarding the legal process providing referrals as necessary and acting as a liaison between victims law enforcement officials prosecutors courts and community agencies.
Essential functions may include but are not limited to the following:
- Interviews applicants concerning violent incidents. Determines type of protection needed and assists the applicant in the preparation of court documents; reviews domestic violence form packets for completeness accuracy and readability.
- Guides victims of domestic violence through legal process and educates victim about the adjudication process.
- Provides victims of domestic violence referral information regarding community services available to them.
- Serves as liaison between the victims abusers law enforcement officials court personnel judiciary and community agencies.
- Prepares court calendars for domestic violence cases; and prepares case files for court session. Schedules temporary protection order hearings through Superior Court. Arranges and confirms interpreters/translators.
- Certifies court documents and disseminates information regarding the status to petitioners respondents and state and local law enforcement agencies. Responds to public inquiries regarding case files court documents and court schedules.
- Contacts appropriate agencies issuing service upon involved parties; notifies applicants of service and mandatory court appointment according to statute. Contacts petitioners to ascertain additional information to assist in completing service.
- Informs security in the Sheriffs Office if potentially dangerous people may be appearing in court and arranges additional security for victims that are in hiding who may need to be escorted to court.
- Develops implements and maintains a case tracking system for reference and statistical purposes. Records and tracks fee waiver cases and prepares vouchers for payment of the filing fee based on courts instructions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work Environment Work is performed primarily in an office environment with lifting required on occasion. A physical hazard may occur from agitated defendants awaiting or during trails or hearings.
- Schedule Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Workload demands may occasionally require work outside the assigned work hours.
- Travel Requirements Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings or trainings.
- Customer Interactions Daily interactions via inperson phone and video with Thurston County staff and the public.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three years of collegelevel courses in sociology psychology criminal justice or related degree in one of these fields is preferred.
- Two years of progressively responsible experience in a social service setting conducting interviews working in crisis intervention or counseling victims.
- Knowledge of the judicial process.
- Ability to use word processing or computer equipment and programs.
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Knowledge of court system legal terminology and case processing procedures pertaining to domestic violence issues.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with victims superiors coworkers other departments and diverse social service agencies.
- Knowledge of domestic violence issues and communication skills appropriate for victims of domestic violence; legal aptitude and proficiency to complete court preparation and provide professional court appearance.
- Ability to process confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work independently and make responsible decisions in accordance with court procedures concerning domestic violence victims.
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely orally and in writing.
- Ability to create implement and maintain tracking systems.
- Ability to manage difficult situations involving domestic violence abusers victims families and their respective support groups.
