Job Summary:
Database Administrator 2 is responsible for the design development maintenance and performance optimization of production database systems. This role supports complex technical database activities and ensures the integrity accessibility and efficiency of the databases used by the HHSC Division of Regulatory Services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create production databases by entering appropriate code and configuring system utilities to monitor performance including memory usage and record distribution.
- Direct programmers and analysts in implementing changes to database management systems.
- Review and correct databaserelated program code; participate in code walkthroughs.
- Modify programs to improve processing performance (performance tuning).
- Support planning development maintenance and monitoring of integrated database systems.
- Ensure new application designs align with existing database structures.
- Evaluate user requests for new data elements and systems incorporating changes into the shared data environment.
- Provide technical assistance and user support including guidance on accessibility issues.
- Coordinate data usage to maintain integrity and control redundancy; load and reorganize databases as needed.
- Perform logical and physical data modeling including prototyping and designing relational database models.
- Implement and execute database recovery and security procedures.
- Define and apply search strategies and storage requirements for databases.
- Maintain a consistent and comprehensive data dictionary; establish standards for usage.
- Monitor database performance and recommend improvements for efficiency.
- Create test environments for application teams including required libraries and procedures.
- Execute backup and recovery operations to safeguard data from hardware/software failures.
- Assist with installation and configuration of database software database analysis design and implementation.
- Participate in benchmarking threshold testing and database security enforcement.
- Contribute to the selection of database management systems and software.
Required Knowledge & Skills:
- Experience in computer systems analysis or programming.
- Knowledge of:

- Working knowledge of EIR Accessibility standards and assistive technologies.
- Ability to ensure accessible user interfaces for input viewing and reporting of data.
- Experience supporting data warehousing and reporting systems.
- Ability to develop test debug and document complex program code.
- Capable of creating and maintaining both technical and user documentation.
