Job Description

  • A new opportunity for a passionate person based in Kinjarling / Albany able to connect with Aboriginal students and community.
  • Reporting as part of the UWA Albany team and working in close partnership with the School of Indigenous Studies well invest in supporting and training you to succeed in the role.
  • Fulltime (1.0 FTE) appointment on a fixed term basis for 2 years.
  • Base salary range: $91833 $97052 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

The University of Western Australias campus located in Kinjarling / Albany and facilitates UWAs teaching and research activity in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The School of Indigenous Studies aims to achieve excellence and equity in all aspects of higher education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The School offers outreach programs an enabling course entry pathways and a range of ongoing support programs and services for Indigenous students enrolled in university studies.

About the opportunity

  • You will provide expert support in planning coordinating and delivering student engagement initiatives and administrative services for prospective and current Indigenous students at UWA Albany and UWA more broadly.
  • Perform a variety of administration duties and support Indigenous students throughout their academic journey helping them develop both professionally and personally.
  • Develop and maintain local networks with community organisations government agencies education and industry partners to raise aspiration for tertiary study and support student success.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent competency.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people addressing the unique needs of Aboriginal students.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to engage community and develop and maintain positive relationships with community organisations education partners industry and government agencies.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with confidence in engaging with people from diverse backgrounds and ages including presenting to groups.
  • Highly developed organisational skills with the demonstrated ability to set priorities and meet deadlines. Including coordinating events and small projects.

Special Requirements

  • This position is designated for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people under section 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act.
  • The position is based at UWA Albany.
  • Occasional travel (intrastate and interstate) may be required.
  • Occasional weekend work and some afterhours work may be required.
  • Current C class drivers licence (preference for experience with manual and 4WD vehicles).
  • Current Working with Children check or eligibility to obtain one.
