    The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Director of Field Operations within the Office of Facilities Management.

    Under the direction of the Executive Director of Facilities the Director of Field Operations is responsible for managing the daily operations of building maintenance custodial services and groundskeeping across all Newark Board of Education facilities. The Director of Field Operations coordinates staff prioritizes work orders oversees preventive maintenance plans and ensures that all work aligns with applicable health safety and building regulations. This role serves as a key liaison between schools central office departments and external vendors to ensure buildings are safe clean operational and supportive of student learning.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
    1. Bachelors degree in Facilities Management Engineering Public Administration or a related field from an accredited college or university.
    2. Certified Educational Facilities Manager (CEFM) certification issued by the NJDOE (required).
    3. NJ Black Seal Boiler License (required).
    4. Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in facilities management or a related field including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
    5. Valid NJ Drivers License.
    6. Familiarity with work order systems (e.g. SchoolDude/Incident IQ) building codes OSHA/PEOSH standards and preventive maintenance programs.

    BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. Plan schedule and oversee general repairs custodial operations groundskeeping and maintenance work across district buildings and facilities.
    2. Supervise building managers custodial supervisors grounds staff and trades personnel; provide leadership evaluate performance and identify training needs.
    3. Prioritize and approve work orders and service requests; determine whether work will be completed inhouse or contracted out.
    4. Monitor the status of open work orders analyze response times and ensure timely project completion aligned with district expectations.
    5. Oversee preventive maintenance schedules for HVAC plumbing electrical and structural systems.
    6. Oversee the tracking inventory of maintenance and custodial supplies; identify budget and order materials and parts as needed.
    7. Oversee the cost development of projects through completion.
    8. Support capital planning efforts by providing input on facility needs and deferred maintenance priorities.
    9. Conduct regular walkthroughs and inspections of all district buildings to ensure safety functionality and cleanliness.
    10. Ensure compliance with PEOSH AHERA IAQ IPM and QSAC facilities requirements.
    11. Act as a liaison with vendors contractors architects inspectors and other stakeholders related to operations and projects.
    12. Assist in budget development and monitor expenditures for maintenance and custodial services.
    13. Support emergency response and participate in oncall duty for urgent situations such as snow events electrical failures or floods.
    14. Participate in crossdepartmental meetings and planning sessions related to operations safety and facility upgrades.
    15. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Facilities.

    KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
    1. Strong understanding of building systems construction methods and custodial best practices.
    2. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize competing demands.
    3. Proficient in using facility management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
    4. Skilled in supervising unionized staff and applying Civil Service rules and protocols.
    5. Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills.
    6. Ability to maintain high standards for safety responsiveness and operational efficiency.

    REPORTS TO: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

    SALARY EMPLOYMENT PERIOD AND UNION AFFILIATION
    1. Salary Range: $110000 $160000
    2. Twelve Months: Twelve (12) Month
    3. Union Affiliation: Unaffiliated
