Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Tutor(s) for Bethany Christian Services provide one to one or small group tutoring to scholars housed within the program. Scholars in the program include grade levels 612.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential functions under the Americans with Disabilities Act may include any of the following duties knowledge and skills. This list is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by employees in this position. Regular on time and in person attendance is an essential function of this job. Other essential functions may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist with identification of Title I scholars.
  • Responsible for the administration of a pretest (or use existing and current data) to each Title I scholar and record data on proper form.
  • Responsible for using test results to design appropriate educational programs to include instruction in basic and advanced skills for each scholar.
  • Responsible for the scheduling of tutoring sessions in consultation with instruction and/or school staff so that staff and scholars can count on consistent and coordinated tutoring.
  • Responsible for the notification to parents (other representatives) of scholars involvement in Title I program.
  • Responsible for the regular communication with regular/special education staff to ensure coordination of Title I program with regular/special education program.
  • Responsible for posttesting each Title I scholar who was in the program 6 months (or more) when that scholar leaves the program.
  • Responsible for approaching scholars with a positive attitude for scholars to learn and to grow.
  • Responsible to make lesson adjustments as needed to help scholars experience success.
  • Responsible for appropriate documentation such as keeping a record of dates length and content of each tutoring session.
  • Responsible for documenting in a log of how his/her time is spent while on the job.
  • Responsible for documenting parent contact and regular/special education communication.
  • Responsible for meeting with administration staff/coordinator and classroom teacher regularly to discuss scholars plan and progress.
  • Responsible for attending staff meetings and inservices as appropriate.
  • Responsible for assisting the scholars with homework to improve performance focus on stimulation an improved attitude towards academics.
  • Responsible for participating in the centers team meeting to assess individual and group needs.
  • Inperson attendance mandatory.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience:

  • Teacher certification.
  • Must have:
    • A) completed at least two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education (60 Credits);
    • B) obtained an associates or higher degree; or
    • C) achieved a passing score on a MDE approved assessment.
  • Successful teaching experiences.
  • Previous experience with atrisk scholars.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with computers.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to respect the confidential of scholar information.
  • Consistently maintained excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to deal with scholars parents and the public in a tactful and courteous manner.

The physical demands work environment factors and mental functions described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Stands and/or walks during most of the working day. Turns stoops climbs bends pushes pulls reaches for and carries materials and equipment in the performance of tasks. Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds. Must be able to work outside for extended periods (up to the entire eighthour shift) in all weather conditions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work is performed indoors although there will be required outdoor activities. The employee is directly responsible for the safety wellbeing and work output of scholars.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to compare analyze communicate both orally and in writing in the English language copy coordinate instruct compute synthesize evaluate use interpersonal skills compile and negotiate.
