What We Are Looking For

Responsibilities include collecting visual acuity measurements recording medical and surgical histories administering ocular medications performing refractometry providing patient education assessing intraocular pressure testing pupils and coordinating patient flow. Upon the doctors approval additional responsibilities could include neutralizing spectacle lenses and measuring corneal curvature using a keratometer or ophthalmometer.

Schedule: 8 hours per day 5 days per week Monday Friday Location: San Bernardino CA

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DELIVERABLES

  • Gathers appropriate patient data to complete the patient history and screening form which includes chief complaint including dates time intensity and other associated factors.
  • Administer dilation drops when appropriate and/or perform necessary testing.
  • Directs and accompanies patients to appropriate room for care as necessary. Prepare and maintain instruments for minor inoffice procedures.
  • Collecting visual acuity measurements recording medical and surgical histories administering ocular medications performing refractometry providing patient education.
  • Assessing intraocular pressure testing the pupils. Neutralizing spectacle lenses and measuring corneal curvature using a keratometer or ophthalmometer.
  • Provide technical support to the physicians for the purposes of patient evaluation diagnosis treatment and continuing care with laboratory protocol.
  • Assist in testing eye muscle function as well as vision. Measure the dimensions of the eyes and the distance between them.
  • Provide telephone assistance to patients to determine if appointments are urgent and assist in solving any issues that arise.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all documents that direct practice e.g. policies clinical guidelines ancillary guidelines etc.; maintains strict confidentiality per policy and guidelines.
  • Show patients how to care for eye dressings.
  • Sets out instruments and supplies in anticipation of provider needs and assists provider with performing exams as necessary.
  • Maintains daily clean organized and fully stocked lab and exam rooms.
  • Follows up on lab cases as assigned.
  • Ability to problem solve with difficult situations that arise in the work area.
  • Must maintain clean professional appearance at all times.
  • Must have the ability to consistently work with rotating doctors residents and interns and have the ability to collaborate teach support and function in a teaching organization.
  • Other duties as assigned by department leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Licensure/Certification: Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) credential required. Current CPR/BLS certification (must be American Heart Association or Red Cross accredited program). As a requirement of this position you must receive EPIC certification for the module you have been hired into.
  • Experience: Minimum three (3) years of experience working in an ophthalmology medical clinic setting required.
  • Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Ability to use measuring devices and appropriate medical equipment used for patient care and testing. Legible writing and charting skills.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain a professional demeanor in challenging situations while communicating effectively. Demonstrates a strong understanding of clinic needs and thrives in a collaborative team environment. Maintains a professional appearance and embodies a friendly compassionate and composed attitude. Dedicated to serving lowincome clients with care and commitment.
  • Essential Mental Abilities: Able to perform basic mathematical calculations and handle multiple duties simultaneously.
  • Work Eligibility: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a fulltime basis. Must not now or in the future require sponsorship for employment visas.
