Job Description

Concordia is a Lutheran higher education community committed to helping students develop in mind body and spirit for service to Christ in the Church and in the world.

Position Summary

The Education Abroad Coordinator provides and facilitates education abroad opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at Concordias Mequon and Ann Arbor campuses. The Coordinator also assists students enrolled at Concordia through international partnerships and incoming programs. This position focuses on developing and administering universitywide policies procedures programs strategies partnerships and goals related to education abroad. This position is parttime (24 hours/week with flexible summer hours) in person on the Mequon campus and reports to the Assistant Vice President for International Affairs.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Education (Study) Abroad policies procedures goals and strategies for universitywide application
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with universities and organizations abroad for dual degree study abroad and research partnerships
  • Recruit for education abroad programs through meetings with prospective students organizing study abroad fairs and information sessions presenting to classes and prospective student events and developing/managing broad & targeted marketing campaigns through email and social media platforms
  • Evaluate efficacy of education abroad initiatives including contribution to institutional strategic priorities
  • Oversee annual budgets for study abroad operations
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with CUWAA offices and departments to ensure smooth execution of study abroad business needs and student services
  • Evaluate study abroad locations and programs by conducting site visits
  • Provide study abroad advising for CUW and CUAA students
  • Coordinate and deliver predeparture orientation seminars for students
  • Assist faculty with development of shortterm Global Ed opportunities
  • Lead evaluation of Global Ed faculty proposals
  • Create and conduct trainings for Concordias study abroad faculty leaders on cultural sensitivity intercultural competencies risk management and travel policy
  • Maintain and routinely review and update a comprehensive risk mitigation and crisis management plan
  • Ensure all student faculty and staff travelers are enrolled and covered by appropriate international insurance
  • Provide supervision and leadership for a staff of student workers and any applicable student volunteers
  • Manage Fulbright Program
  • Assist with coordination of Visiting Students Program (incoming study abroad)
  • Support international education programming and events
  • Other related duties as assigned

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills written and oral especially communicating with diverse audiences and cultures
  • Able to independently manage routine responsibilities while also developing and driving new initiatives
  • High proficiency in software applications germane to this discipline (e.g. Via Terra Dotta)
  • Demonstrated skill in marketing and recruitment
  • Experience with Microsoft Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint and Canva
  • Supportive of the mission and values of Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)
  • Commitment to uphold and promote Concordias Lutheran identity and educational mission

Education and Experience

  • A bachelors degree in any field is required; masters degree is preferred
  • Prior experience in academic advising admissions study abroad and/or international education required
  • Experience with international travel in particular studying living or working abroad

Compensation and Benefits

This is a part time hourly nonexempt position. Starting wage may be determined upon education and/or experience.
