****Applicants seeking shortterm or parttime work with the University Hawaii may apply for Casual Hire positions which include administrative professional and technical (APT) or instructionaltype positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for fulltime employees and up to 1 calendar year for parttime employees.

Salary Range: Pay commensurate with experience and qualifications

Work Schedule: 10 hours per week

Temporary/Permanent: Temporary (.25 FTE)

Funding: UH Foundation funds

To begin approximately in June or as soon thereafter as possible.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Lead all Ke Ao Mau interdisciplinary initiatives including community engagement initiatives. Specifically Ke Ao Mau as a course and project provides students with a unique body of culturallyanchored and communitybased ike (knowledge) skills and values that facilitate work with kanaka maoli (Native Hawaiians). The primary focus of the course is to provide a holistic examination of issues and to explore culturallyanchored resolutions and practices to achieve social justice and health and wellbeing
  2. Begin research and development of virtual huakai
  3. Supervise Ke Ao Mau Graduate Assistant
  4. Lead Ke Ao Mau initiatives as defined by University of Hawaii Foundation funding requirements
  5. Prepare year end reports to funders specifications associated with faculty kumu loea and students
  6. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Masters degree in Social Work
  2. 4 years progressively increasing experience coinstructing SW680 Ke Ao Mau course
  3. Experience in collaborating and coordinating with cultural expertise in various cultural practices
  4. Expertise in course and huakai integration
  5. Strong experience in community engagement with Native Hawaiian serving organizations
  6. Strong background in Native Hawaiian cultural practices
  7. Strong interest in interdisciplinary and communitybased research and instruction
  8. Strong experience with Zoom
  9. Strong oral writing and interpersonal skills

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Experience developing work for publication related to Kumu and Loea
  2. Expertise in drafting project reports and grants submits for local and federal organizations
  3. Competency in crosscultural community work
