Position Summary


Big Bend Community College (BBCC) a rural college serving vibrant culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for a Agriculture Trainer in the colleges Japanese Agricultural Training Program (JATP).This position will teach general agriculture vocabulary and American agriculture basics as it relates to fruit vegetables livestock horticulture and other assigned topics to Japanese Agriculture Trainees as well as other assigned duties.

The JATP Instructional Training Program runs from June 23 August 20 2025 with an estimated 40 contracted days at $175 per day. Plus a farm equipment and machine operation training stipend and field trip stipend.

The Japanese Agricultural Training Program is a work/training educational program for Japanese students to come to the USA. The training is an intensive 9 week program with English Spanish and agricultural instruction.

The Japanese Agricultural Training Program was visualized as a means of improving Japans agriculture via the teaching of U.S. technology and farming methods. Todays JATP represents a continuing effort not only to improve agriculture in Japan but also to promote greater understanding between Japan and the United States. Academic as well as comprehensive onthefarm training is used to accomplish this. Additionally trainee insight into American culture and institutions is developed through participation in host family and community activities.

Essential Job Duties

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Teach general agriculture vocabulary.
  • Teach American agriculture basics as it relates to fruit vegetables livestock horticulture and other assigned topics.
  • Follow curriculum and lesson plan schedule.
  • Provide agriculture demonstrations and training.
  • Organize and schedule agriculture field trips.
  • Communicate with trainees and JATP Director.
  • Attend extracurricular activities.
  • Drive 11passenger van to transport trainees when needed.
  • Other duties as requested by the JATP Director.

Minimum & Desirable Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5 yearsof Agriculture industryexperience.
  • Ag instructor must possess strong leadership and organization skills.
  • Strong written electronic and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid drivers license and auto insurance.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Teaching experience.
  • Agricultural or related degree.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Japanese culture.
  • Experience teaching English as a second language.
