Job Description

As our Assistant Education Director (AED) you will assist in the design and implementation of educational services for students who are blind visually impaired and those who have multiple disabilities. As a member of a collaborative administrative team the AED will: facilitate and assist staff training and communication carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with school policies and applicable laws. Interview hire and train employees. Address complaints and resolve problems. Conduct observations and performance appraisals. Reward as well as implement disciplinary protocols as needed. Represent the program in campus projects and committees. Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned by the Education Duties Responsibilities and Expectations include the following:Leadership:Present as a strong advocate for Perkins Secondary Program students and with program staff students and parents to develop and provide focused vision on the direction of the program in both the short and long with upper administration on identifying educational and program professional development needs and opportunities to participate in staff and provide innovative progressive and datainformed educational programming and interventions for a diverse student and staff group including accessing efficient current technology. Case Management:Collaboratively lead a multidisciplinary team in the development of IEPs and implementation of programming for students who are visually impaired and multiply team meetings and triennial and prepare quarterly progress reports for assigned the team in the implementation of IEP goals related to academic independent living vocational social and recreational communication with students parents staff and other school the Local Education Authority (LEA) in developing individual education plans (IEPs) and oversee the implementation of and conduct ISPs individualized transition plans (ITPs) Service Plan Reviews and Case Reviews. Work with the residential team and Health Services to coordinate programs for assigned :Work with case managers and teachers to plan class groups and adjust students schedules as and continually update student and staff block scheduling :Manage and supervise employees in the Educational ProgramsObserve classes and service delivery and hold regular supervision meetings for assigned staff is compliant with all regulations required by licensing and provide trainings and inservices to feedback to encourage professional growth and student review professional development support and guidance to ensure staff views their workload is manageable and view Perkins as a positive place to staff in developing professional development Management:Ensure the program is compliant with all regulations promulgated by licensing authorities. Assist in the development adaptation and implementation of curriculum aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework and the Expanded Core Curriculum. Assist in the coordination of the MCAS tests and Alternate Assessment and schedule staff in the development of the program budget. Report Management:Administrate ESPED access and ensure updated and accurate information for students on all databases (easyIEP IEP Direct etc.).Finalize progress reports to be sent to families and school districts. Generate yearly student tracking forms and manage student in staff training including training in using computerized programs for IEPs and student information and Team/Committee MemberWork with the supervisory team to screen applicants and hire qualified staff. Serve as representative of the Program on various campuswide program as a member of the evaluation team and provide leadership and decision making regarding the acceptance of new students into the To perform the job successfully an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:Ability to plan and conduct a system of continuous evaluation of each students Individual Education Plan progress including MCAS of a variety of teaching techniques within the discipline staff training curriculum development and to effectively communicate orally and in writing Ability to think clearly in stressful situations high stress tolerance and physical stamina required and flexibility of schedule. High stress tolerance and physical stamina required and flexibility of and/or Experience Masters degree from a recognized college or university in a related service field or Education with concentration in visual impairment special education or related DESE License as Program Director Principal or Special Education Director or willingness to obtain certification within two years in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Crisis Prevention and Physical Intervention (CPPI). Trainings are provided by Perkins School for the (3) years staff supervision and teaching experience with children who are visually impaired with multiple disabilities with a wide range of functional levels and ages.
