The City of Oxnards Cultural and Community Services Department Library Divisionis seeking aLibrary Technicianwith library technical and customer service skills; data entry skills; a positive attitude; takes initiative; utilizes organizational skills; has the ability to follow oral and written instructions; has an enthusiasm for learning and considerable attention to detail to be part of the team. There is currently one (1) fulltime vacancy within the Cultural and Community Services Department Library Division Library Division serving at the Oxnard Library.
WHAT YOULL DO:
Provide paraprofessional technical and clerical support services for the Library such as patron assistance circulation and acquisition processing and cataloging in the Circulation Branch Services and/or Technical Services Team.
Customer service including answering phones; creating library accounts; providing homework assistance; assisting patrons in locating material using computers printing and library account maintenance; and assisting with volunteer scheduling recruiting and training.
Financial/Clerical including collecting payments; tracking items; preparing revenue deposits and counting revenue; processing purchase orders and invoices; processing periodicals for public use; and tracking and ordering supplies.
PAYROLL TITLE:Library Technician
CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:
This class is the first level in a sixlevel Library Series devoted to providing public library services. Incumbents provide paraprofessional technical and clerical support services for the Library such as patron assistance circulation and acquisition processing and cataloging. Incumbents are typically assigned to circulation and/or technical services and perform some combination of the following duties. As assigned work may include customer service including answering phones; checking sorting and mending items; collecting payments; tracking items; preparing revenue deposits and counting revenue; assisting patrons in locating material using computers printing and library account maintenance; collecting fines and lost book payments; creating library accounts; providing homework assistance; assisting with volunteer scheduling recruiting and training; processing interlibrary loans; cataloguing materials; processing purchase orders and invoices; and tracking and ordering supplies.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This classification is distinguished from the Library Technician Senior in that it provides paraprofessional technical and clerical support services and routine customer service.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED / SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives supervision and specific direction regarding assignments and deadlines.
WORK SCHEDULE:
The normal work week is Monday and Wednesday 10:15am to 8:15pm Tuesday and Thursday 8:00am to 6:00pm and alternating Saturdays 8:30am to 5:30pm. This positions work hours may change depending on department needs. This position may be required to be available to work additional hours as needed to respond to workload needs. This position is governed by the overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay.
This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the Department.
Provides customer service and support to library patrons which may include: assisting with circulation of and locating library materials; providing assistance in the use of computers printers and other equipment; providing notification of material requests; assisting with homework; answering phone calls; responding to general servicerelated inquiries.
Works with volunteers by assisting with scheduling and work assignments.
Registers new patrons and processes library cards; collects fees and fines; provides receipts; processes interlibrary loans.
This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the Team.
Maintains sorts and organizes library materials; mends and cleans damaged materials; replacing tags; catalogues items and arranges materials for shelving.
Enters and maintains system/account data; prints lists mailing notices and reports; date stamps incoming items; sorts mail; maintains logs and activity information; compiles data.
May perform: opening and/or closing procedures; balancing cash register; retrieving and counting revenues; preparing deposits; processing passport applications; processing purchase orders and invoices; monitoring and replenishing supplies.
Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
The following are minimum qualifications necessary for entry into the classification:
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of public library related support experience or customer service experience
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS
None required
OTHER:
Must be able to effectively communicate in English both orally and in writing
Highly Desirable:
Bilingual in English and Spanish

NOTE:For most positions the City of Oxnard relies on office automation (Microsoft Office/Google) and webbased enabled tools therefore candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with ongoing work.
Regular and reliable attendance effective communication skills and development of effective working relationships are requirements of all positions.
Employees are required to participate in the Citys direct deposit plan and are paid on a biweekly basis.
This position requires a 12 month probationary period.
