Job Description

The Director/Principal of Technical Education position will begin on July 1 2025. This is a full year fulltime exempt position that offers competitive wagesand full benefits. Office is located at the DIISDTechnical Educaiton Center in Kingsford Michigan. The deadline for initial consideration is Friday June 6 2025 at 3:00 .

Employment Status: NonUnion Exempt

Qualifications:

  • Possess a Masters Degree or higher in Educational Administration.
  • Possess a valid Michigan Teacher Certificate.
  • Successful experiences as an administrator preferred.
  • Recent experience as a building principal highly preferred.
  • Prior experience working with school budgets public relations career education curriculum development staff development and evaluation student and staff scheduling.
  • Ability to be administratively certified within the State guidelines.
  • Driving may be necessary for this position which would require a valid drivers license.

General Description:The role of the Director/Principal is to provide educational leadership and manage all daytoday operations at the Technical Center. The Director/Principal shall administer develop plan organize and evaluate the operation of all Career and Technical Education programs in Dickinson and Iron counties. This will be done in accordance with State and Federal standards and district policies and regulations. The Director/Principal will also write and implement Federal and State grants that will compliment the Career and Technical initiatives of the Board of Education. The Director will also collaborate to develop consortium activities with the region and state when necessary in the procurement of grants supporting special populations and Michigan Works! programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Must have regular and reliable attendance.
  • Prepare the DIISD Career and Technical Education budget and provide expenditure control on established budgets for Career and Technical Education.
  • Coordinate prepare and submit reports to the Michigan Department of Education and Office of Career and Technical Education and prepare yearly added cost funding reports utilizing the CEPD Option via the current reporting system.
  • Stay informed of and actively seek program funding from Federal State and other sources.
  • Complete oversight and coordination responsibilities for all State and Federal grants.
  • Ensure accurate completion of all grant related quarterly reports and expenditures monitor budget detail and complete end of year reports for Perkins Grant.
  • Provide written and oral reports to the Superintendent and Board of Education as needed.
  • Provide liaison services between CTE Department and LEAs Postsecondary institutions and other collaborating agencies.
  • Provide leadership in establishing or eliminating CTE programs.
  • Cooperate with public and private agencies organizations and professional personnel in securing and providing services for all students in establishing and pursuing career goals.
  • Provide positive public relations and a positive climate of cooperation between and among constituent agencies the general public and business and industry.
  • Coordinate inservices for technical education personnel.
  • Organize and coordinate the Career Education Planning District Council.
  • Serve as a liaison between DIISD local economic development organizations and Michigan Works! The Job Force Board.
  • Evaluate teaching staff and oversee the evaluation of all CTE personnel.
  • Responsible for supervision of all CTE personnel.
  • Responsible for development of job postings interviewing and hiring of all new CTE employees.
  • Responsible for evaluating student enrollment in each CTE program and assigning blocks of instruction per Board approval.
  • Oversee and direct major maintenance needs to the Technical Education Center including major equipment purchases maintenance projects etc.
  • Oversee the planning and conducting of safety drills as required by statute and or board policy.
  • With input from appropriate staff approve the purchase of supplies equipment technologies etc. for the CTE Department.
  • Attend Regional and State level meetings as Department representative.
  • Selectively attend meetings workshops and seminars related to technical education and administration.
  • Selectively seek a seat on career/technical educational councils groups committees or boards which influence technical education.
  • Perform such other tasks which may be assigned by the Superintendent to successfully provide services in the best interest of students and the department.
  • Responsible for overseeing the provision of vocational assessments to prospective special education students in all LEAs.
  • Coordinate special needs services involving paraprofessionals counseling and referrals at the center.
  • Evaluate instructors in a manner that will enhance professional growth especially with nontenured teaching staff.
  • Monitor and document the validity of all CTE teacher credentials on a yearly basis.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations for technical education curriculum.
  • Provide or oversee discipline measures for CTE students.
  • Oversee the content and enforcement of the student/parent handbook.
  • Provide guidance to students relative to attendance grades discipline career planning program success etc.
  • Serve as DickinsonIron Technical Early College Director.
  • Coordinate all CTE early college and CTE dual enrollment activities for students.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a positive role model for DIISD constituents demonstrating how to be a responsible citizen and productive member of society.
  • Adhere to the DIISD Code of Ethics.
  • Ability to carry out other associated duties as assigned by administration.

Additional Working Conditions:

  • Occasional exposure to blood bodily fluid and tissue.
  • With reimbursement may be required to use personal vehicle to perform job related functions.
