WEL Communications Officer Consultant
DUTY STATION (City Country): Rome HQ Italy
DURATION: 6 months
The Wellness Service aspires to promote and advocate in WFP the highest corporate occupational health standards by managing health risks offering evidencebased quality controlled occupational health services and nurturing trust in clients through professionalism with the highest regard for confidentiality and privacy. The Wellness Division has grown in scope and staffing over the last 5 years and a key need is for its numerous ongoing activities globally regionally and locally to be coordinated and promoted in a cohesive manner. Given the varied nature of its activities WEL requires a communications program that works collaboratively and strategically across the Division to collate activities and inform staff and management about its activities in a coherent comprehensive and meaningful manner. The communications officer will support the WEL Service and the WEL Strategy both internally and externally in coordination with the People and Culture Coordination Unit. This includes the design and implementation of a WEL communications strategy (internal and external) the creation and dissemination of multimedia WEL informational material responding to inquiries coordinating promotional events and coordinating with partners on campaigns and awareness raising activities. The communications officer will liaise closely with COM (WFP Communications unit) to develop a WEL visual identity while ensuring all materials adhere to WFP house style and branding guideline. The WEL COMMS officer thinks creatively and has excellent communication advocacy and interpersonal skills.
In the WFP Wellness organigram the WEL Communications Officer is located in the Front Office and reports to the Staff Health Protection Adviser.
With a view towards implementing the existing external and internal WELL Communication Strategy while supporting the drafting of the new Wellness strategy the COMMS officer in WEL will:
Implement an effective and functional internal communication strategy with particular emphasis on:
Horizontally supporting internal communication of individual activities between WEL branches.
Vertically facilitating and nurturing communication between HQ colleagues and colleagues in RBx and COs engaging and responding to the voice of our colleagues in the field.
Prepare and facilitate WEL team network building for WEL staff working on the same team in same and different regions.
Cultivate a community and begin to build capacity of WELL staff on all aspects of communications providing advice guidance and training to ensure consistent quality communications activities that deliver the desired impact specifically with Regional Counsellors and Regional Medical Officers.
Work with regional and countrybased communications HR ergonomist and staff counselors on promoting use of the Wellbeing Platform.
Advise on communications related to the strengthening of the WFP Wellness Committees and the CO Wellness Focal Points.
Design and deliver webinars and live events sponsored by WELl at global regional and country based levels
Manage existing Communication & Reports focal points in the Service to ensure WEL global communications are cohesive coordinated and benefit from communications best practices.
Ensure the WEL global communications are aligned with WFPs strategic vision and mandate monitor performance against objectives and ensure appropriate development to enable high performance.
Prepare tailored multimedia communications products to effectively disseminate Wellness messages/achievements to target audiences.
Generate and/or facilitate the production of donor specific visibility content when requested/appropriate.
Support WEL leadership to maximize the use of WEL data for advocacy and resource purposes. Engage internal partners to contribute to implementation of the WEL communications strategy when appropriate.
Work in close collaboration with counterparts to align activities and ensure a coherent approach to communications within WFP. In particular work with COMMS focal points in the Workplace and Management Department to ensure alignment of communications activities
Mitigate any reputational risk arising from the work of the WEL function (internally & externally) through anticipation of potential perception issues and tailoring communications to offset this risk.
Any other duties as
Education: Bachelors degree in communications journalism or related field (Advanced degree an asset)
Experience: Minimumof 510 years relevant exprience in a communication role
Knowledge & Skills:
Languages: Fluency (level C) in English Language; French is an asset
