Your new role

Utilize your lived experience to support other young people on their mental health recovery journey. Being a youth peer support worker means drawing on your lived experience in a safe and supportive way. This may include sharing parts of your lived experience of helpseeking and recovery when supporting young people and when engaging with communities. Sharing in this way should be based on what is helpful (or unhelpful) for this young person what is appropriate to share within your role and responsibilities and your boundaries about what you feel comfortable and safe sharing.

headspace Horsham strongly encourages candidates aged between 18 and 30 with a lived experience of mental health challenges and/or helpseeking to apply. This position is time limited and as such headspace will support peer workers to transition out of their roles at the end of this period by offering training professional development and potentially opportunities to transition into other roles within the organisation.

headspace Horsham provides early intervention mental health services to young people aged 12 to 25 across the Wimmera with an awareness of the importance of providing of a positive experience in what may be their first connection with a mental health service.

Your skills and experience
  • Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or similar is desired.
  • Practical knowledge of issues faced by young people experiencing mental health and wellbeing challenges and their families.
